Give Shelter to Those Seeking Refuge

We need to stand for border communities and vulnerable migrants seeking refuge

(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) - migrants immigrants I was near the San Diego border crossing when I saw Border Patrol agents fire tear gas canisters and flash bang grenades into a crowd of migrants gathered nearby.

I saw a low-flying Customs and Border Protection helicopter use its rotors to push plumes of tear gas into a canal where many migrants had gathered. Even though I have been working to support and protect migrants and border communities for many years, I continue to be disturbed and horrified by these clear and egregious violations of people's dignity and human rights.

Pre-Winter Snow Expected in Cascades This Week

Good news? Air quality should improve as the week goes on.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - snow As rain and cooler weather return to northwest Oregon and southwest Washington Wednesday and Thursday, snow levels in the Cascades will be dropping. Expect snow levels to lower to around 5500 feet by late Wednesday night, then drop to near pass levels between 4000 to 4500 feet late Thursday and Thursday night.

A few inches of snow can be expected at high elevations Wednesday and Wednesday night, then accumulating snow becomes likely at the Cascade passes Thursday through Friday.

ODOT Closes Old McKenzie Pass Highway

Predicted snow causes this Seasonal Closure

(BEND, Ore.) - OR Hwy 242 closed With snow in the Oregon Cascades predicted over the next week, maintenance managers with the Oregon Department of Transportation have made the decision to close the Old McKenzie Pass Highway (OR 242), for the winter/snow season effective Monday, November 5 at dawn.

It will reopen in Summer 2019, when the snows have melted and travel is again safe on the old highway.
