First-Half Defense Propels Cavs to 72-61 Win Over Evergreen State

After shooting 28.1 percent from the floor in the first, Evergreen responded to convert on 45.8 percent of their attempts in the second to outscore Concordia 35-34 in the half.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Geoducks logoLimiting the Geoducks to 28 percent shooting and 26 points in the first half, Concordia University defeated The Evergreen State College 72-61 in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday night.

With the win, CU improved to 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in CCC play while TEGS dropped to 5-2 with an 0-2 mark in league play.

Paced by 10 first-half points by junior center Ann Snodderly, the Cavaliers jumped out to a double-digit lead midway through the opening period. A Snodderly layup with 7:48 left in the half propels CU to a 22-10 advantage.

Steigleman's Double-Double Not Enough in Loss to Eagles of Northwest

As a team, the Warriors shot 17-for-64 (26.6%) from the field, including 6--for-20 (30.0%) from behind the arc and 14-for-22 (63.8%) from the free-throw line.

Jeffers Sports Center.

On the first weekend of conference play, the Warriors end up splitting the back-to-back games and starting their conference season off to a 1-1 mark. Picking up their first win in conference play last night against the Geoducks of Evergreen, the Warriors took the floor tonight looking to put up back-to-back wins to kick off their conference season. The Eagles of Northwest, on the other hand, came into tonight's game well determined to bounce back after a tough road loss last night at the hands of the Cavaliers of Concordia. Tonight, the Eagles would do just that.

Redshirt freshman Kelly Kubec (Lake Stevens, Wash.) added to his perfect dual meet record, improving to 5-0 with a 12-4 win over Trevor Lofstedt at 133 pounds. He improves to recording bonus points in 78 percent of his matches this season.

Streak Ends as Cavaliers Fall to Lee in NAIA National Championship

Jackie Pronovost Named NAIA National Player of the Year.

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - Soccer ballThe Concordia women’s soccer team felt defeat for the first time of the season with a 3-0 loss to Lee (Tenn.) in the NAIA National Championship game on Saturday.

Concordia finished the season with a 23-1-1 record while Lee concluded the year 22-1-1. Concordia entered the tournament as the No.5 seed while Lee advanced to the finale as the No. 3 seed.

Concordia senior defender Jackie Pronovost (Milwaukie, Ore.) was named the 2008 Brine-NAIA Women’s Soccer National Player of the Year. It’s the second such honor for a CU women’s soccer player with Caitie Davidson capturing the award in 2004.

(SEATTLE ) - WOU logoThe Western Oregon University track and field team earned five event wins, set two school-records and garnered an NCAA provisional qualifying mark Saturday, Dec. 6th at the UW Winter Preview.

Chris Reed set the Wolves' all-time record and earned an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 5000m as he finished in 14:51.23. This topped the previous school-record by nearly 20 seconds and beat his personal best by 31 seconds.

Martin Nets Game-High 21 Points in Loss to Eagles of Northwest

Northwest was led by Solomon's team-high 12 points on 3-for-8 shooting from the field that included a 2-for-5 showing from beyond the arc, while Greg Peters and Greg George both registered double-doubles with 10-point, 10-rebound efforts.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Corban College logoSophomore Clay Martin (Beaverton, Ore.) scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field that included 3-for-9 from beyond the three-point line, but Corban's men's basketball team fell to the Eagles of Northwest, 70-63, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

Coming off a disappointing opening loss in conference play last night against Evergreen, Corban came out fire in its eye tonight looking to hand Northwest its first conference set-back of the season. Unfortunately, the Eagles were too strong in the opening minutes of the second half and handed the Warriors their second loss of the early conference season.

No. 23 Coyotes Shut Down No. 16 Raiders

The Coyotes held off that run, but a pair of Speer free throws cut the lead to 81-73 with 7:00 to play and a free throw by Rhiannon Dickison had the lead down to seven at 83-76, but that’s as close as the Raiders would get.

(ASHLAND, Ore.) - College of Idaho logoThe 23rd-ranked College of Idaho women’s basketball team got 36 points from Nicole Gall and downed 16th-ranked Southern Oregon 98-86 tonight at McNeal Pavilion.

The Coyotes are now 10-1 overall and 2-0 in Cascade Conference play. Southern Oregon fell to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in conference. The loss snapped SOU’s 21-game home winning streak.

Gall tied a school-record with her 36 points and also tied a school record with eight 3-pointers. The performance overshadowed an impressive performance by SOU’s Jacki Speer.

Haruguchi and Rawlings Qualifies For NCAA’s In 200 Fly

The Beavers finished the evening with a fifth place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.83. The group consisted of Haruguchi, Crandall, Iverson and Rawlings.

( FEDERAL WAY, Wash.) - Kayla Rawlings and Saori HaruguchiKayla Rawlings and Saori Haruguchi of the Oregon State women’s swim team became the first two swimmers on the team to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 200 butterfly during the final day of competition at the Husky Invitational. The Beavers finished the invitational in fourth with 1,004 points.

Oregon State showed its strength in the 200 butterfly with Haruguchi winning the event with a time of 1:54.88, taking nine seconds off her preliminary time, while Rawlings finished in fourth in 1:58.95 and setting a new personal record. Rachael Wahl finished the event in fifth, 2:00.12, setting a new personal record and moving into fourth on the Oregon State all-times list, while Brittney Iverson finished in sixth with a time of 2:02.24.

Bearcats Shoot 55.4%, as WU Outscores Menlo, 92-79

Willamette Puts Three Players in Double Figures: McClary 22, Mitchell 19, Holmes 13.

(ATHERTON, Calif.) - Willamette logoWillamette University shot a blistering 55.4% from the field and placed three players in double figures, as the Bearcats downed Menlo College, 92-79, at the Haynes-Prim Pavilion on Friday, Dec. 5. Kyler McClary (Sr., Post, Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS) led the way with 22 points, while Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/University of Redlands) contributed 19 points and Marcus Holmes (So., PG, Seattle, WA/Garfield HS) tacked on 13 points.

Willamette improved to 2-3 overall, while winning its second game in a row. Menlo dropped to 0-5 on the season.
