Aug-23-2009 23:36TweetFollow @OregonNews Medical Insurance Multi-Millionaires in a Multi-Billion Dollar BoondoggleDr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.comJust remember all the multi-millionaires living high on the hog with your money!
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Everybody SHOULD know that the Medical Insurance business along with the Pharmaceutical business and the Nationwide Nursing Home businesses are the best money makers for the ultra-high paid senior officers. I was astonished beyond comprehension when I read about the hundreds of millions of dollars these BANDITS are “bribing” congress with to obliterate President Obama’s hope to get medical care for some 50 million people who cannot see a doctor. They have “hired” 3 thousand lobbyists to spend for those in Congress to further deny care to these 50 million medically destitute. The greatest obscene shock of all was the “salary” of the chief of the lobbyists Karen Ignagni. She earned $1.6 million in 2007 and certainly more now. She was most likely lowest on the totem pole. There are 1700 Medical Insurance Companies. I would estimate they have an average of 10 multi-millionaires in each company. That’s about 17,000 money grabbers. Their profits in 2007 were $12 BILLION BUCKS! When I think of the drug companies, I really shake. I understand many of the upper level think the insurance guys are pikers. Only God knows how many they are and how much they are paid – PLENTY! Now comes the Nationwide Nursing Homes. I heard of one HOTSHOT being sued by the Govt for over-charging medicine something like a billion bucks. He was GOOD to his employees and those on the jury found him not guilty!!! One of the fantastic facts about all the above guys and their companies – they can’t LOSE money. If one year they do, the next year they raise the price of premiums etcetera or get a government bail-out like what happened to the really big insurance companies and banks. Who pays for all of this very high level boondoggling?!? JUST LOOK IN YOUR MIRROR – THAT’S WHO!! JUST REMEMBER ALL THESE MULTI-MILLIONAIRES ARE LIVING VERY HIGH ON THE HOG WITH YOUR MONEY!! All of them are making more money than President Obama or the Senators and Representatives. That’s why man of them go into the lobbying business afterwards. BEACOUP BUCKS!!! I am not sure how salem-news, and their editors are approaching health care. Everyone knows, at present, it is out of control. Some want government intervention, and some think government intervention is what caused the problem. We can send links from so called "professionals" all day long. Instead of getting in the "read this link" game, I ask one thing, and one thing only. Lets not rush into anything. Ask yourself, why is obama working 24/7 on a health care plan, but doing very little if anything in regards to employment and jobs. Keeping our current health care mess 6 more months is not going to destroy America. Lets see where the economy is going first. Many say the stock market etc is being manipulated, and the green shoots are only to boost confidence so that obama can get his health care plan thru. Either way, lets just give this some time, more debate, lets not rush into something so big. Seems to me, that jobs are more important at this time, than health care. Please, we do need health care reform, but lets not be pushed into something we may regret later. Lets give it some time, so that more research can be done before making decisions that effect our lives so drastically.

To all: For further solid fact on most of the queries here, be they implicit or clearly stated, see current Op Ed for real documentation, with link for each reliable source. Check it out with those who know and can prove it, then see what you think. Complex problems built over 50 years require complex and sharp new answers, built by full discussion, reliable and mature judgment, and our proven American Constitutional processes and patterns. We'll get what we choose to get --and there lies the real danger via disconnected and misinformed persons reacting via emotion rather than the wit, wisdom and will demanded of each of us if the nation is to cumulate those judgments. First inform yourself from reliable, tested sources; then cogitate a while prior to any sound-off driven otherwise.

The exceeding number of doctors who have left Canada is high. Now, the doctors are about to leave the U.S. Many already have. Yes, this article speaks truth, but having the federal government take it over is not the answer. And, there are just as many of our elected officials taking bribes from one side, as the other. AIG for instance. This article is one sided. Just as the veterans how good their health benefits are.

To all: Dr. L. is completely correct re "adminstrative costs" and its concomitant: lush profits and lush salaries and lusher lobbyists, likely recently departed from Congress. U.S. healthcare companies have highest administrative costs in the world; TWENTY PERCENT. France: 4%;Canada 6%; Taiwan, 1.6%. Marketing costs are part of high-burden in U.S., adding to extremely heavy per person costs: U.S. more than $7,000, Japan low at $3,400, with 15 vs 3 doctor visits per person, THREE times U.S. visits. (See current Op Ed Reader Note for links to sources.)

Donna that really sounds great, but where do the extra medical doctors, staff and equipment come from? You already have something akin' to socialized medicine at the VA Hospitals, and they have pretty long waits. For example it's an average wait of 30+ days for a service-connected vet to see a primary doctor and much longer for a nonservice-connected veteran. MRI's can take several months to get, and many months later to get a surgeon consult and even longer for a surgical procedure. In fact many surgical procedures they use to do, they don't anymore. Veterans are finding it more and more difficult to get a colonoscopy, which can take several months if they even have them available at some VA hospitals. Please note that our politicans brag about the funding and state of the art VA facilities. Well, some are pretty good, but they are dealing with a growing veteran population that is burdening all resources and some rationing (read delay of services also) is going on. It is the primary doctor that orders medical services, so in civilian medical facilities where there is already a pretty good wait, how do you get more personnel and equipment to handle the new influx of millions of patients? It's true that huge profits are being made, but if guidelines are put in to create competition for services, rather than stifling it with too many regulations prices can be driven down. I agree that we need to get medical services to everyone, but what I've seen of the house bill, this will just make things worse. We are still dealing with a finite amount of resources, so all the money in the world will not change that. It takes years to train medical personnel, years. Also if you have a highly congested and buracratic medical system, how many top notch people want to enter that profession?

The greed of these insurance companies and the drug companies never seems to stop. I hope Americans will wise up and allow socialized medicines for all instead of medical care only for the elite.

Donna: Your opinion sounds better in some respects than what we have here in Canada. Good luck!

Opinion: TWO-PART HEALTHCARE SOLUTION
[Return to Top]I believe there is a two-part solution to the healthcare crisis in our country.
1) Socialized medicine. Yes. Good medical care for all – not just the wealthy. No, there won’t be long lines. No, we won’t be denied necessary care (as we are now). No, it won’t bankrupt us. Our dollars will actually go toward quality healthcare instead of into the wallets of insurance company executives and stockholders.
2) Comprehensive health care centers. One-stop shopping. We need facilities where if your doctor feels you require an x-ray and a blood test, you go down the hall to get them. Need a specialist? You see one immediately in the same facility without waiting months. This model already exists in our country and works well.
Why do we allow a handful of rich health insurance company executives and stockholders to hijack our healthcare system? These individuals may have millions of public relations and lobbying dollars on their side, but we’ve got millions of voices. It’s time we used them to shout: “We want socialized medicine and comprehensive health care centers now!”
