DA Mike Schmidt Testifies in Support of Ending Mandatory Minimum Sentences

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt testified in support of Oregon Senate Bill 401, which would convert mandatory minimum sentences for specified felonies other than murder to presumptive sentences.

Salem Man Arrested for Sex Abuse of Four Children

Detectives concerned there may be more victims

(SALEM, Ore.) - 35-year old Luis Fernando Del Rio JR, of Salem, was arrested after being identified as having victimized four children. Salem Police detectives conducted the investigation into allegations of sex abuse.

Since Del Rio had access to many children, detectives are concerned there may be more victims.

Murder Suspect Demetruis Ray Brown Found Unfit for Trial

Community update on double murder suspect after cases dismissed

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Community Update: regarding the criminal cases involving 26-year-old Demetruis Ray Brown -- the suspect in two separate murders, an attempted murder, and one in-custody assault.

On January 14, 2021, a Multnomah County Circuit Court judge issued an opinion and order finding Brown unfit to proceed to trial, as defined in ORS 161.360.

Portland Man Gets 11 Years in Prison for Child Sex Crimes

Cohron was communicating with minors online for sexually explicit purposes.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The court convicted Cohron of one count of attempting to use a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, one count of online sexual corruption of a child in the second degree, one count of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree.

Cohron had sexually explicit online communications with multiple children across seven different states.

Salem Hostage Situation Ends with Multiple Fatalities

(SALEM, Ore.) - Once deputies arrived at the home a call was placed to the suspect inside by a trained negotiator with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiation Team. As the incident unfolded, shots were fired.

Deputies are reporting that there were multiple fatalities during this incident, including that of the suspect.
No deputies were injured.

Portland Man and Three Teens Arrested After Multiple Marijuana Dispensaries Burglarized

A substantial amount of evidence from the burglaries was discovered in the vehicle.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Early this morning, North Precinct officers were dispatched to multiple alarm calls at marijuana dispensaries within a short period of time.

Four individuals were detained for questioning and a substantial amount of evidence from the North burglaries was discovered in the vehicle. Three of the suspects are teenagers.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Today, Multnomah County DA Mike Schmidt announced that 31-year-old Jonathan Creswell is being charged with one count of murder in the second degree constituting domestic violence and one count of unlawful use of a weapon constituting domestic violence.

It is alleged that Creswell used a knife to intentionally cause the death of the victim.

Colorado Man Charged With Hate Crime After Unprovoked Stabbing of Black Man

He stabbed the man because he “was Black, and I don’t like Black people."

(EUGENE, Ore.) - U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams announced today that a Colorado man has been charged with a hate crime after stabbing a Black man from Ontario, Oregon while the man was sitting in a fast food restaurant.

A federal grand jury in Eugene has returned a one-count indictment charging Nolan Levi Strauss, 26, a Colorado resident, with a hate crime involving an attempt to kill.
