Be Aware! Highway 99 West at Marys River Bridge to Remain Closed

A northbound truck hauling a forklift on a trailer struck three overhead cross members of the historic bridge Wednesday morning, denting the first two and tearing completely through the third beam. A vertical beam was also broken in half.

(CORVALLIS) - The Marys River Bridge on Highway 99W in Corvallis will remain closed for at least another 10 to 14 days while the Oregon Department of Transportation engineers fixes for the damaged structure and hires a specialty repair contractor.

Although the damage is not extensive, the members damaged by the forklift are in a critical location that compromises the strength and carrying capacity of the entire bridge. ODOT bridge engineers are continuing work on the complex calculations needed to determine the extent of repairs.

Be Aware! Highway 99 West Closed at Marys River Bridge Near Corvallis

Depending on the scope of the damage, and the availability of specialty bridge repair contractors, the bridge could remain closed to traffic for several weeks.

(CORVALLIS) - A truck hauling a forklift on a trailer struck the overhead cross members of the Marys River Bridge on Highway 99W Wednesday morning, forcing the Oregon Department of Transportation to close the bridge until further notice.

The damage to the bridge, at mile point 84.5, occurred just before 10:30 AM when the northbound truck and trailer hit the first three cross beams, , denting the first two and tearing completely through the third beam.

The resulting damage may have made the bridge structure unstable. ODOT bridge engineers are enroute to the bridge to inspect and assess the damage. It is likely the bridge will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

Camp Adair Inspection Begins

Camp Adair, located near Corvallis, was constructed in 1942 and served as a training facility for several army divisions.

(CORVALLIS) - sunset at Adair The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contractor Shaw Environmental will be conducting a site inspection of former Camp Adair and Adair Air Force Station beginning this week evaluating Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) that had historically been used for military training.

The former Camp Adair and Adair Air Force Station is located in parts of Polk, Benton and Linn counties, near Corvallis.

Corvallis Police Asking For The Public’s Help in Locating Rape Suspect

Detectives fear Vicente Romero Leon may have more victims.

(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 20-year-old Corvallis resident accused of sexual abusing a 12-year-old girl.

Corvallis police began a sexual assault investigation after encountering Vicente Romero Leon in the company of the 12-year-old female, under suspicious circumstances.

On August 13th, police arrested Leon was arrested and charged with Rape in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony, as a result of the investigation.

UPDATE: Power Back On in Corvallis, Philomath, Parts of Albany

Power customers in two counties spent hours in the dark, but reports indicate that all power has been restored.

(CORVALLIS) - Power pole More than 42-thousand utility customers in Linn and Benton counties including the cities of Albany, Corvallis and Philomath went hours without power today.

The power went out at about 2:50 PM Wednesday afternoon.

Pacific Power spokeswoman Bekki Witt says the outage was been traced to a transmission substation, where crews repaired the problem.

Scientists, who this week had been looking for signs of the end of this “dead zone,” have instead found even more extreme drops in oxygen along the seafloor.

Oregon One Step Closer to Offshore Ocean Observing System

OSU will operate the project, known as the Oregon Coastal Ocean Observing System, or OrCOOS, which would provide some of the first coordinated “real time” oceanographic data from Oregon’s coastal waters.

(CORVALLIS) - Pacific ocean in Oregon Oregon’s long-awaited offshore ocean observing system has moved one step closer to reality after the U.S. Senate Commerce-Justice-State Appropriations Subcommittee, which approved its 2007 spending bill, proposed $2 million for the project.

The bill still needs to pass through the senate floor, and then go to conference with the U.S. House of Representatives – likely in December.

Oregon Department of Human Services Employee Arrested on Attempted Sodomy Charge

The initial examination of the data storage media on 53-year-old Charles Carrington’s home computer revealed the presence of child pornography.

(CORVALLIS) - Charles Carrington In June, the Corvallis Police Department began an investigation after a concerned citizen reported that a Corvallis man named Charles Carrington has sexual interest in children/juveniles.

Corvallis police spokesman Lieutenant Jon Martyr says the concerned citizen engaged in e-mail conversation with Carrington while posing as a 15-year-old boy.

During the e-mail conversation, Carrington communicated his desire to meet with and engage in “deviate sexual intercourse” as defined in O.R.S. 163.305 (1) with the 15-year-old boy.
