Second Attack Prompts Warnings by Corvallis Police and Oregon State University

Students and members of the general public are urged to use caution.
(CORVALLIS) -
Law enforcement officials in Corvallis and at Oregon State University are urging students and local residents to use caution, especially at night, after a woman was assaulted and attacked Saturday (Jan. 26) off campus.
It was the second assault in the area in the last 11 days and police say the incidents were similar, as were the descriptions of the suspect.

Benton County Deputy Sheriffs and Salem Police Officers Involved in Shooting

The gunfire exchange happened NW Springhill Dr. and NW Independence Highway.
(INDEPENDENCE, OR) -
One Benton County Deputy and one Salem Police Officer were struck by gunfire and sustained serious injuries early Sunday morning. Both were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The suspect was also struck by gunfire. He was flown via air ambulance to a Willamette Valley hospital. His status is not known.

Holocaust Memorial Week Observed April 16-20

One of the highlights of this year’s program is a public exhibit based on a collection of more than 300 letters dating from 1940-45 from Holocaust survivor Garncarz.

Oregon State University will observe Holocaust Memorial Week April 16-20 with a series of events.
These include an exhibit of letters from Holocaust survivor Sala Garncarz, a theatrical performance highlighting Garncarz’s struggles in a concentration camp, a talk about the genocide of native peoples and a concert by an acclaimed flutist.

Some Districts Resist State Open Enrollment Change, While Others Embrace it

The Eugene School District, for example, opened up 1,725 seats to new students, while it currently serves 16,000.

Oregon K-12 students have until April 1 to apply for transfers to public schools that opted into the state’s new open enrollment law.
School boards and districts had until March 1, 2012 to decide whether or not they would accept new students from outside their district based on the recent open enrollment policy put into place by the legislature.

The Majestic Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Corvallis at 115 SW 2nd Street between Monroe and Madison. There is abundant free public parking and numerous bars and restaurants to enjoy before and after the show.

Key Bank Robbed in Corvallis

(Corvallis, Oregon) -
On Thursday at approximately 2:09 p.m. employees of Key Bank, located at 1817 NW 9th St, called to report and unknown male had just robbed their business. The suspect entered the front doors of the bank wearing a motorcycle helmet. He implied he had a weapon and demanded money. Bank employees complied with his demands and the suspect left the business with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect was last seen leaving the bank on foot, running toward Hwy 99W.

Fifth Annual Willamette Volleyball Classic to be Held This Weekend
