Marijuana Good, Alcohol Bad, So Prints the Oregonian

It is tremendously gratifying to read of The Oregonian’s new progressive stance on Marijuana. It is long overdue.

pot vs. booze

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - To admit that The Oregonian would print BEER BONG OK, NOT BONG HITS as an OPED article on the editorial page Sunday, September 19, 2011 was like an electric shock. Maybe some of their editors, reporters or other stringers have severe pain problems or just want to enjoy the effects of an excellent tranquillizer after an arduous days work instead of a nasty old glass of beer or wine.

At any rate, I cannot conceal my pleasant surprise. They have been printing “bitchy” article about Marijuana for 12 years now.

The writer of the OPED, David Sirota, is a journalist, radio host, and author in Denver who also wrote, Why is it bad to smoke weed (which has injured nobody) and to openly sell beer. He also wrote that Michael Phelps, the 8 time Olympic Gold Metal swimmer was “bad” because he “toked a bong” but Lance Armstrong was “pushing alcohol” (for Coors?). Incidentally Lance Armstrong is alleged to have been using illegal drugs to win the French Cycle races.

David Sirota (search for him) has a whole bunch of stories by him and about him on the computer. He points out strongly that the University of Colorado has a very loose regulation about students use of alcohol with the Coors Beer Company, a great financial supporter. Students may have beer in their dormitories. However, they are very punitive of Medical Marijuana users even if the students have a valid Medical Marijuana Permit. The schools catering service sells alcohol and University of Colorado officials license its logo for use on beer-drinking merchandise.

Donald Misch, Assistant Vice Chancellor of the University admitted that alcohol causes a myriad of problems but only admonishes students to “drink responsibly”.

It is tremendously gratifying to read of The Oregonian’s new progressive stance on Marijuana. It is long overdue.

THANK YOU OREGONIAN!!!
