(SALEM, Ore.) - Dr. Phillip Leveque and Bonnie King do their best to share helpful information with the latest round of Salem-News.com and Google Video visitor's questions. This video is part of a continuing series that offers information and question and answer segments on medical marijuana, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other medical conditions.

As an Osteopath, Dr. Leveque treated Vietnam veterans along with many other people over the years who suffered from PTSD. When medical marijuana came into view as a legal option, Leveque was at the forefront of the political machine that helped legalize cannabis use for sick people in Oregon.

While Oregon's medical marijuana program is restrictive and small when compared to California's, it is considered to be very successful by experts like Leveque. He says marijuana is a simple answer for many people and the "Reefer Madness" mentality is unfortunately, alive and well. This involves government statements about ill effects of marijuana that are largely contrived, and fly in the face of data that the federal government itself has gathered.

One of the trends in recent weeks has been for Oregon police to send out news releases that "tie" medical marijuana to other, more serious crimes. Rather than making our streets safer, they are in the game of politics to help further demonize a legal substance for sick people.

To assume that all people who use the herb for medical purposes will break no other laws seems absurd, and decisions of police agencies to politically maneuver public thinking through media releases seems a sad use of taxpayer time and an act that is hostile and aggressive in nature toward something Oregon's voters have repeatedly voted for.

Dr. Leveque and other medical experts have stated for years that there is no possible way for marijuana use to lead to death; it is a natural substance that treats a large number of illnesses, yet threatens a specific group of industries; the timber industry, the petroleum industry, and probably most of all the pharmaceutical industry.
