Nov-30-2009 14:32TweetFollow @OregonNews Marijuana: Beneficial Medicine Part 3Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.comReefer Madness: Insanity, Ignorance or Illiteracy?
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I have posted twice about ABC News lauding marijuana for Autism (see salem-news.com ABC Lauds Marijuana for Autism and ‘Marijuana Saved My Child’s Life’) and I was totally bewildered by the negative emails about parents giving DEVIL WEED to their children. I decided to take refuge in Google where I found 11,000,000 hits about Medical Marijuana. I think Bing had only 593,000. I didn’t check anybody else. I hope you get the idea. Most postings were favorable but the “moral minority” collectively “had a cow” about the subject. Collectively I saw about 400 email responses to the ABC and CBS stories. Criticism ranged from the inane to the insane to the outright goofy. Goofy said “just take a ruler and bang it on their knuckles”. Another said, “just tell them to straighten up and fly right” or the equivalent. I think most of these detractor Autism experts should ply their philosophy in a hospital for the criminally insane. This may not be a good example but a severely Autistic full grown child has many of the same attributes. Some parents emailed of some success with the highly advertised drugs but most parents report they have tried dozens of drugs, mostly severe brain depressants which in their words don’t work. Many detractors berate me for advocating Marijuana for Autistic children, that it is harmful to them. I’ll bet a nickel they have NEVER seen a full blown Autistic child in action. Many are holy terrors and non-responsive to anything external. It is only a hope and prayer for the parents to find SOMETHING that works. As a physician/pharmacologist I tend to be pragmatic about drugs/medicines – if they work, they work and in this case many parents, after trying dozens of other standard, but not working medicines, have found that Marijuana is effective for Autism. There is even an Autism organization which has published that Marijuana is beneficial for Autism. By the way the kids usually eat it ---- NO LUNG CANCER!! ********************************************* Dr. Phillip Leveque has degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology and minors in physiology and biochemistry. He was a Professor of Pharmacology, employed by the University of London for 20 years, during which time he trained the first doctors in Tanzania. After training doctors, he became an Osteopathic Physician, as well as a Forensic Toxicologist. Before any of that, Phil Leveque was a Combat Infantryman in the U.S. Army in WWII. He suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more than 60 years after the war, and specialized in treating Veterans with PTSD during his years as a doctor in Molalla, Oregon.

Accusing those who oppose this and never seeing full blown Autistic child in action. Ever consider the surroundings as the cause of those holy terrors?? Sounds to me the man has no clue about autism at all, severe or mild.
