Feb-22-2012 02:36TweetFollow @OregonNews Medical Marijuana Finally Recognized by The OregonianDr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.comAmong other things, an Oregonian article this week cites the 30 or so Marijuana dispensaries in the Portland area and another 30 throughout the state.
(MOLALLA, OR) - To see an enlarged picture of a Marijuana leaf on the front page of The Oregonian newspaper, Feb. 19, 2012, is like the breath of spring after a miserable winter. For 20 years The Oregonian has belittled the Medical Marijuana patients as “potheads” and worse. To have an article with a positive message is truly a blessing. Their reporter, Noelle Crombie, wrote an excellent article about the positive attributes of a very valuable medicine which has been until now hidden as a dangerous, addictive medicine only used by “potheads” and lowlifes. To write that 72,000 persons in Oregon now have permits certainly should calm the waters. There has not been a crime wave nor a bunch of Reefer Madness crazies attacking the rest of the population. What Noelle did not write was there are about 30 Marijuana dispensaries in the Portland area and another 30 throughout the state in various cities. Certainly the cops and Prosecuting Attorneys know about this but with 72,000 customers thank goodness the cops et cetera for the most part are leaving these patients alone, except in Jackson, Josephine, and Douglas Counties where Reefer Madness among the cops is still highly infectious. One new item of interest is that out of state residents can get Oregon Medical Marijuana permits. I think that I had one of the first out of staters from Wisconsin to come to Oregon to get a permit. He had been arrested for possession but he was told by the District Attorney that if he could show that he had a doctors permission to use Marijuana they would dismiss the case. He came to Oregon for 3 days, got an Oregon I.D., brought his medical papers and got a permit. He could have been Gary Storck on the front page of The Oregonian. It is comforting to read that about 600 non-Oregon residents have Oregon permits. When this story is reported to The Associated Press we will have thousands of patients coming here to get some semblance of legal protection for using an illegal medicine which works better than ANY legal prescription medicine. This is great. Now this State has more people on drugs. But this time all legal. Way to go. There are going to be a lot of people who need this stuff
Editor: You are totally missing the point, which is that legal pot means less people on drugs. Marijuana or cannabis, is a natural herb, it is a plant and it doesn't get 'processed' before use, if it does then it may be hash, but it goes back for thousands of years of medial use as Dr. Leveque has explained over the years in great detail. Never in history has marijuana killed a person, think about it. If you happen to be a Veteran who suffered the horrors of one of these lovely wars like Iraq, Vietnam or Afghanistan, it can mean great relief as it it one of the most effective treatments for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and since the Doctor and I know this not just from the thousands of Vets he treated, but also from the stream of contact over the years we have received from Veterans using Medical Marijuana, and some are WWII Vets; one of Dr. Leveque's distinguished patients was a Marine helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War who was shot down repeated times. He suffered horrible physical pain and was on a weekly program of endless pharmaceutical drugs, doped up, unable to live, just becoming a vegetable, then he found Dr. Leveque, the guy had never considered marijuana as it was against his principles, but he did try it and soon began dropping a list of narcotics from his daily routine and was down to almost no narcotics at all, and lived out his life well. This is not an argument, it is a matter of people gleaning the facts and swallowing them down. The rest of the country is moving forward with it, people have been conditioned to see this natural remedy as something it is not, the government idiots had it classified along side heroin and methamphetamines; the ignorance associated with the political and legal treatment of marijuana since 1937 is a nightmare. This stuff was used regularly and enjoyably, by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Queen Victoria was an avid pot smoker, hopefully I am getting this across..

U have been such a soldier for this cause. I have read your articles here for some time now. The Propoganda Machine out of Washington w/ their Corporate lobbies are a ruthless foe. I have extensive nerve damage do to a vehicle accident yrs ago that has caught up with me over the last few yrs. The 'pain meds' they give me or want to get me back on, simply do very little for nerve pain. Marijuana helps me enormously, but is illegal here in Fl. and has been in all states we lived in. Maybe we should move again ! ;) HEMP is a wonderful product and we could break the bio-fuel charade that is one of the 4 top causes of famine if farmers could grow it legally in the US. Canada has learned this. It is wonderful not only as a fuel alternative, but also for insulation, clothing, paper, the list of uses are endless even including it's use for lotions etc. I personally want to thank you for your efforts in this area. It may not help me, but you have been a driving force on this issue and I commend you on that. Now, how do we make the FEDS mind their own business better and stay the hell out of ours? ;^)
