Marijuana Dispensaries and Marijuana Plantations: Can We Have Both?

For marijuana criminals, 99% of the time the crime is only for using and it is probable many are using for medical purposes.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I was about to write a critique of the Measure 74 fiasco based on the OPED advocacy article in The September Oregonian titled Regulation is the Key for Supplying Medical Marijuana, co-authored by John Sajo, Anthony Johnson, Jim Klahr and Alice Vanu all staunch advocates.

I posted at the time that Measure 74 was a good idea but it wouldn’t work. As a Marijuana doctor of about 5000 patients and sometime user of Medical Marijuana after studying the pharmacology for 50 years, I think I know a little about the subject. I have posted about 100 stories about Medical Marijuana on Salem-News.com.

According to OMMP statistics, there are about 40,000 medical patients with cards or pending signed by 3,550 physicians. There are also 19,000 care givers some of whom also medicate.

Measure 74 would provide dispensary/stores where patients could buy their medicine but this would be available for maybe 8000 patients who had difficulty getting it. For the rest of the 60,000 patients, 40,000 + 19,000, they already have their arrangements for supply. The dispensary patients would pay a 10% tax, the others NADA. HOW IS THAT SYSTEM SUPPOSED TO WORK???

On Dec. 9, 2010 The Oregonian published a report about a marijuana plantation with 1,559 plants and 100 pounds of processed Medical Marijuana. The police found $300,000 worth of Marijuana and the 1559 plants would produce about 1500 pounds worth $4.5 million.

The previous week or so the Border Police at Mexico captured 10 tons of Marijuana. In the latter case the Border Patrol estimated that they only apprehend about half of what is grown here or smuggled in.

To say that I was titillated by these stories as a euphemism is putting it mildly. The police also confiscated $104,678 in cash and $100,000 worth of equipment.

This was not the only story about the paranoiac insanity of the DRUG WAR.

Salem-news.com posted an article about Vermont, New Data: Pursuit of Misdemeanor Marijuana Possession Costs Vermont Over $700K Annually, where the Vermont State Government spends about $700,000 annually apprehending dangerous Marijuana users. Vermont is a state with a small population, not even 1% of the U.S. population. That means at least $70,000,000 for the U.S. and it is probably ten times that. We have heard total estimates of 20 to 40 BILLION DOLLARS. Can we afford such nonsense?? NOOOO.

For these Marijuana criminals, 99% of the time the crime is only for using and it is probable many are using for medical purposes.

In writing this, I am reminded that about ten years ago in congress, the congressional pages had their own Marijuana network and Washington D.C. probably has the highest percentage of user voters. This is in spite of the fact that D.C. has about the cheapest liquor in the U.S. – no state taxes.

MARIJUANA FOREVER: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE!!!
