One Killed and One Seriously Injured After Police Chase on Hwy 30

Police say they had stopped chasing him before the crash.

(ST HELENS, Ore.) - fatal crash A Scappoose City Police officer attempted to pull over a 2004 Toyota Highlander in relation to a driving complaint on Highway 30 at about 12:54 p.m. The operator of the Toyota Highlander initially pulled over and then fled the stop westbound.

Three minutes later, after the pursuit had been terminated, the Toyota crashed into the back of a westbound 2012 Honda Civic.

Man Killed in Train v. Pedestrian Crash

The man had been sitting in the middle of the railroad tracks with his back toward the train.

(SALEM, Ore.) - train crash Just before 7:00 a.m. this morning, an Amtrak train northbound at 34 mph struck a pedestrian approximately 250 yards north of Market Street NE.

When the engineer spotted him they put the train into emergency braking and sounded the horn, but the individual did not move and the train was unable to stop in time.

Waldport Man Killed in Head-On Crash North of Florence

About 8:46 a.m. there was a report of a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 101 near milepost 174.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - head on crash OSP Troopers and emergency crews responded to a head on crash Sunday morning about 14 miles north of Florence.

Police say a 2008 Honda CRV operated by 92-year old Eugene Earl Weigant, of Waldport, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line striking a 1994 Chevrolet Imperial Van operated by 23-year old Tanner Dickinson, of Columbus, Ohio, head-on, according to the preliminary investigation. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.

Marijuana Robbery Leaves One Man Dead in North Salem

Three are behind bars as detectives investigate the fatal shooting.

(SALEM, Ore.) - shooting suspects A report of shots fired brought officers to the 4800 block of Jean Court Northeast Monday morning, just after 8 a.m. When they arrived, they found one man with a single gunshot wound to the head, apparently an armed robbery-gone-wrong.

Two Killed In Highway 213 Crash North of Silverton

A pickup crossed the centerline and cost two lives.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - fatal crash hwy213 Preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Toyota Sienna van was traveling southbound when it drifted off the roadway, lost control and came back onto the highway.

The Toyota crossed the centerline at an angle where it was struck on the passenger side by a northbound 1999 Acura sedan.

Sailor Killed When Car Crashes Into Truck Pulling Loaded Horse Trailer

Tragedy included one fatality and injuries to 3 people and 2 horses.

(AURORA, Ore.) - injured horse The driver of the passenger car was seriously injured and life flighted to a Portland hospital. The passenger died on scene. She has been identified as 25-year old Stephanie Stover. She was in the Navy and stationed in Everett, Washington on the USS Gridley.

The truck's occupants were both taken to area hospitals and are expected to live.

Linn County Investigates Logging Death of Salem Man

A log approximately 20 feet long and ten inches in diameter, fell from the top of the trailer striking the man.

(LYONS, Ore.) - log truck fatal The victim, 55-year old Jerry Dean Sramek, of Salem, was a contracted independent truck driver and had just loaded logs from the logging site and was in route to a mill. Sramek was found by Brent Richmond, another truck driver traveling the same route at about 11:26 a.m.

The investigation revealed Sramek stopped to re-secure his load on the trailer approximately four miles away from the landing site where he was loaded.

Salem Woman Killed in Crash on Silverton Road

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Salem Police Traffic Control Unit.

(SALEM, Ore.) - fatal crash When they arrived on the scene, officers found an adult female deceased and a 9-year old girl injured in one vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle with minor injuries.

The investigation has shown that 19-year old Estaban Alvarez-Ayala was traveling eastbound on Silverton Rd in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when, for some reason, he crossed into the westbound lane of traffic.
