Waldport Man Killed in Head-On Crash North of Florence

About 8:46 a.m. there was a report of a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 101 near milepost 174.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - OSP Troopers and emergency crews responded to a head on crash Sunday morning about 14 miles north of Florence.

Police say a 2008 Honda CRV operated by 92-year old Eugene Earl Weigant, of Waldport, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line striking a 1994 Chevrolet Imperial Van operated by 23-year old Tanner Dickinson, of Columbus, Ohio, head-on, according to the preliminary investigation. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.

Mr. Weigant was transported by Western Lane Ambulance to Peace Harbor Hospital in Florence where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Mr. Dickinson was transported by Pac West Ambulance to Peace Harbor Hospital and treated and released for minor injuries.

One lane of Highway 101 was closed for approximately four hours while the investigation was conducted. OSP was assisted by the Central Coast Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
