(SALEM, Ore.) - A fatal two-vehicle crash on Silverton Rd NE has the road closed, as it may be for some time yet. Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Silverton Rd NE at approximately 11:20 am on a report of a two-vehicle crash at that location. When they arrived on the scene, officers found an adult female deceased and a 9-year old girl injured in one vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle with minor injuries. The investigation has shown that 19-year old Estaban Alvarez-Ayala was traveling eastbound on Silverton Rd in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when, for some reason, he crossed into the westbound lane of traffic. His vehicle struck a westbound 1999 Acura Integra driven by 35-year old Shana Lucas of Salem. Shana Lucas was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her 9-year old daughter was riding in a car booster seat in the right rear seat and suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Salem Health Hospital. Esteban Alvarez-Ayala was transported to the hospital for observation and subsequently arrested on charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Reckless Driving and Assault in the Second Degree. He was lodged at the Marion County Correctional Facility. This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Salem Police Traffic Control Unit. Silverton Rd remains closed as the investigation at the crash scene continues.
