Salem Hospital Foundation Awards Scholarships to 103 Students Statewide

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Salem Hospital Foundation announces that 103 students in medical or medically related fields will receive a scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Foundation awarded a total of $191,000 in scholarships to students pursuing degrees in a variety of medical programs.

Salem Area Veterans Get New Community Based Outpatient Clinic

A formal grand opening ceremony is scheduled for the Salem CBOC later this summer.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem will open on Wednesday, a new Community Based Outpatient Clinic as part of the Portland VA Medical Centers ongoing effort to improve access and care for Veterans.

The new 26,000 square foot facility is located at 1750 McGilchrist Street SE, Suite 130, and currently serves approximately 9,000 Veterans.

Man Sexually Assaults Teen Girl in SE Salem Home

The man was described as small, about 5'5, thin build, shoulder length hair pulled back into a pony tail.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Marion County Sheriff's department is asking for the public's help in locating a man suspected of breaking into a southeast Salem home and sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant Chris Baldridge says the incident happened at a residence located on State Street SE.

Fireworks Now on Sale in Oregon

There were 197 reported fireworks related fires in Oregon during 2013, resulting in one death.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Office of State Fire Marshal, Oregon fire service, Keep Oregon Green, natural resource agencies, Oregon fireworks wholesalers, and safety experts encourage Oregonians to "Keep it Legal and Keep it Safe" when using fireworks.

Oregon law bans possession, use, or sale of fireworks that fly, explode, or travel more than six feet on the ground or 12 inches into the air.

Police Searching for Missing Oregon State Hospital Patient

Shawn C. Hall was last seen at the Home Town Buffet on 82nd Avenue in Portland at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Monday.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Oregon State Police is asking for the public's help in locating a 37-year-old psychiatric patient from Oregon State Hospital in Salem.

OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says the patient, Shawn C. Hall, is not considered to be a danger to himself or others. He went missing on Monday.

Blood Donors Sought in Oregon to Help Offset Summer Shortage

(SALEM, Ore. ) - An overnight fire in northeast Salem, gave firefighters quite a battle before they got the fire under control.

Marion County Fire District No. 1 was called to a structure on fire at 180 Kenwood Ave NE just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Captain Joshua Darland said once firefighters arrived on scène they were informed by one of the home's occupants that there was a fire in the home.

Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Salem Wildfire

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Firefighters from Marion County Fire District No.1 along with crews from the Salem Fire Department and Aumsville Fire Department worked quickly to extinguish a wildfire Sunday afternoon in Salem.

Poll Finds Salem Voters Support Third Bridge

While some portion of the project likely will be paid for using federal and state funds, the current funding climate indicates that local funding must be a significant portion of the total funding.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with polling firm Action Solutions, have found that 65 percent of Salem voters approve of an additional vehicle bridge across the Willamette River in Salem.

The scientific poll was conducted on March 11 of this year and included participation from a sample size of 474 registered voters throughout Salem.
