Marine and Army Units Will Deploy to Afghanistan

Marine and Army infantry units will supplement existing forces.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - American soldier raises his weapon on patrol in Kabul, Afghanistan, Nov. 2006 Pursuant to President Obama's decision today, Secretary Gates ordered the deployment of two additional combat units, totaling more than 12,000 troops, to Afghanistan.

The 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), from Camp Lejeune, N.C., with approximately 8,000 Marines will deploy to Afghanistan in late Spring 2009.

In WWII I was lucky if anyone who served as a combat infantryman considers himself lucky.

More American Soldiers Killed in Iraq

The soldies were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Iraqi flag The Department of Defense announced the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

They died February 9th in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

Department of Defense Reports Casualties in Afghanistan

Two soldiers killed in Afghanistan served in the Army's 101st Airborne Division.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - War casualties The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

They died February 10th in Salerno, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle.

Anaka & Burr Call for Prompt Top Level DOD/VA Meeting on Military Suicides

If the suspected incidents are confirmed, the number of suicides last month would surpass the number of troops killed in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Soldier Today U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI), Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee and a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, and Senator Richard M. Burr (R-NC), Ranking Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, called on the Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs, the current acting Co-Chairmen of the DoD/VA Senior Oversight Committee (SOC), to convene a meeting to address the alarming rise in solider suicides.

The Army reported seven confirmed and 17 suspected suicides in January.

Guard Home Vigil Dismantled by Oregon State Police

Despite the setback, Darr and Camp Homebound have renewed their presence on the Capitol steps complete with new signs.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Michelle Darr after a meeting with state officials several weeks ago Anti-war activists say that in the wee hours of morning on Sunday, February 8th, an Oregon State Trooper seized and destroyed signs protesting the upcoming deployment of the Oregon National Guard, including a memorial set up for a fallen Guard soldier.

Since November 1st, 2009, Michele Darr; a Corvallis mother of 6; has been fasting and maintaining a 24-hour presence on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol building in Salem bringing awareness to the massive upcoming deployment of the Oregon National Guard.

PTSD Flight 1549

The intrepid Captain – cool as a cucumber said he doesn’t know how soon he will be able to fly again.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - PTSD There seems to be a whole bunch of people who think that PTSD is for sissies – NO WAY! The near lethal catastrophe of Flight 1549 and ditching in the Hudson River should give them a wake up call.

The entire event occurred over about 5 minutes and of these 155 people some are psychologically scarred for life.

Anyone who appreciates the sacrifices of U.S. combat troops should read this.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A U.S. frontline combat soldier on patrol in Afghanistan Far too little information exists for American combat veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, commonly referred to as PTSD.

Hundreds of thousands of men and women have been diagnosed with PTSD, and with each new deployment to the war theaters, the number grows. Outside of the standard government programs, answers for this unfortunate problem are sometimes few and far between.
