(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Pursuant to President Obama's decision today, Secretary Gates ordered the deployment of two additional combat units, totaling more than 12,000 troops, to Afghanistan.

The 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB), from Camp Lejeune, N.C., with approximately 8,000 Marines will deploy to Afghanistan in late Spring 2009.

The 5th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division from Ft. Lewis, Wash., will deploy approximately 4,000 soldiers to Afghanistan in mid-summer 2009.

This Stryker Brigade and the MEB will deploy to increase the capabilities of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Approximately 5,000 additional troops to support these combat forces will receive deployment orders at a later date.

The Department of Defense reports that they will continue to announce major unit deployments when they are approved.

I am in the military deployed right now and since Obama is pulling guys out of Iraq our unit had to make cuts to go elsewhere on our deployment. Now i am all alone with no one from my family deployed overseas. THANK YOU OBAMA! It is hard to leave your family when you get to pre-mob and get told you are not going with them.

War is necessary to overcome evildoers. I will fight any and all of America's foes. The U.S. Military will prevail through will and determination.

Editor: Eric, I get the sense that you are pretty young and probably pretty smart.  Your convictions are admirable, I too served in uniform and I have covered the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as a war correspondent.  My question to you, is if you were born in Iraq and raised by really decent parents over there, do you think you would say the exact same thing?  Because if you did, especially if you were born as a Sunni Arab, you would almost automatically be branded a terrorist by this government,  Every day you and your family under those conditions,   Just something to think about, feel free to post your answer here.

It shows how ignorant you both are. He said from day one he would bring an end to the our role in Iraq. He never said anything about Afghanistan or any of the several other places troops are deployed. Don't be mad at him because your too stupid to do your own research.

None of you know what you are talking about. Obama certainly has the goal of mainitaing peace, and brining troops home. But now that he has access to the data surrounding both Iraq and Afghanistan he has made a good decision; to wind down the neverending and unclear conflict in Iraq, and take care of the original issue of the Taliban regime, Bin Laden, and uncontrolled opiate production in Afghanistan.

Change ??? We have been lied to and sold out by Obama, Emmanuel and "proud to be a Zionist" Joe Biden.

I voted for Obama to end these wars and bring our troops home. Let's see, Alexander the Great was not successful in the region, nor was Genghis Khan, nor the British nor the Russians--nor we will be.
