Major Tribute to Veterans This Weekend in Albany (VIDEO)

Veterans at Timber Linn Park need construction and labor help on the Traveling Vietnam Wall.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Volunteers are needed at Timber Linn Park in Albany to help construct an amazing tribute for veterans that will be on display through July 19th.

The Oregon Veteran's Tribute is presented by the Linn County Veterans Memorial Association and it takes place through Sunday. It consists of the Traveling Vietnam Wall and the Veteran's of Oregon Field of Flags.

ADC to Hold Capitol Hill Briefing on Human Rights Violations in Gaza

The ADC says the aim of this briefing is to bring important findings to the United States Congress, its members, and their staff.

(Washington D.C.) - Illegal white phosphorous raining down on the homes and businesses of Gaza City in Occupied Palestine during Israel's attack last December The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) will hold a Capitol Hill Briefing on Wednesday July 15, 2009, to discuss violations of international humanitarian law in the Gaza Strip.

The briefing will feature a panel discussion with representatives from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Both organizations have recently produced extensive reports on violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza during the 22-day war this past winter.

Report: Taliban Captures District in E Afghanistan

A local report quoted provincial governor Jamaludin Badar as saying that the district fell to Taliban insurgents after three days of fighting and the government's negligence.

(KABUL, Afghanistan Xinhua) - Salem-News.com Taliban militants have captured a district in Nuristan province in east Afghanistan, a local newspaper reported Saturday.

"Taliban fighters overrun Bargimatal district on Thursday night after days of fierce clashes with police force there," said a Saturday's report on the Daily Rah-e-Nejat.

Costly Fighting in Afghanistan Leads to Three More Combat Deaths

A Marine from Florida, a Marine from North Carolina, and a Texas soldier, pay the ultimate price fighting the war in Afghanistan.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Two Reconnaissance Marines were killed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan July 8th at 7:26 p.m. local time, when a homemade roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle. Master Sergeant John Hayes was 36, Lance Corporal Roger Hager was 20-years old.

U.S. Army Specialist Josh Farris died of wounds suffered from the detonation of an improvised explosive device July 9th in Afghanistan's Wardak Province. He was 22-years old.

PTSD Therapy and Cannabis: Fantasy, Fiction & Fact

Many Vietnam PTSD Vets told me that cannabis/marijuana worked better than any pharmaceutical they were given. I have been given several of these medications and while taking them I would NOT be able to write articles like this.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - HMWVV in Iraq As many of my readers know, I have PTSD myself some 64 years after battle exposure in WWII. I am also a retired Medical School Professor of Physiology, Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Both backgrounds give me an avid interest in effective PTSD Therapy. I have also successfully treated maybe as many as 1000 PTSD Victim Veterans.

Four More Casualties Reported Overseas

Two soldiers, a Marine and a sailor are the casualties named in this report.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Caskets aboard military plane Two more casualties have been reported in Afghanistan. An Army Specialist with the 4th Infantry Division, and a Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command Sergeant, were killed in combat operations July 8th.

Two U.S. servicemembers, an Army Private from the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq, and a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman Airman with the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan, died of non-hostile causes.

Oregon Guard Prepares for Iraq Deployment (VIDEO)

A large percentage of these "citizen soldiers" comprising this Tigard, Oregon based National Guard unit, are highly experienced and decorated combat veterans.

(FORT STEWART Ga.) - Oregon soldiers of the 41st BCT prepare for duty in Iraq Oregon National Guard soldiers with the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team were honored during a special sendoff ceremony Friday in Fort Stewart Georgia.
The roughly 3,500 41st IBCT Oregon soldiers are preparing to spend about a year in Iraq, where the U.S. presence is quickly drawing back after the recent July 1st deadline to vacate Iraq's major cities.

14 members of the U.S. military have lost their lives in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait, between June 21st and June 29th 2009. They bring the total reported in June to 48, according to our numbers.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com There has been little reprieve for American combat forces fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The serious business of war has been charging the United States interest, and casualties are mounting as Coalition forces vacate Iraq's larger cities and increasingly patrol Afghanistan's hostile environments. The fallen represent a broad cross-section of American culture and they hail from all over the country. The average age of this group is 28.
