Weekend Drug Sweep in Salem Lands 15 Behind Bars

Five children were placed into protective custody.

(SALEM) - handcuffs On Friday and Saturday, Marion County Street Crimes Detectives and Sheriff's Deputies, in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, made contact at several residences in Marion County where we had received numerous drug activity complaints recently.

During the sweep, 15 adults were arrested and 5 children we removed from known drug houses and placed into protective custody.

A variety of charges were filed.

Marion County Offender Sweep Lands 40 in Jail

During the sweep, two children were taken into protective custody by DHS.

(SALEM) - jail cell On Friday, January 19th during the evening hours an offender sweep in Marion County was conducted involving more than 50 representatives from Marion County law enforcement agencies, the Marion County DA’s Office and the Department of Human Services – Child Welfare.

During the sweep nearly 40 arrests were made on outstanding arrest warrants, parole/probation violations and new crimes.

(SALEM) - Life Directions flier We hear about the bad influences our young people have and we refer to it as peer pressure.

There is another kind of peer pressure Life Directions as an organization emphasizes.

Saturday I visited the Winter Event “The Child in Our Neighborhood” at Waldo Middle School, organized by Life Directions.

Free Storm Debris Disposal Offered in Marion County

Debris can be taken to S. River road next Saturday, Dec 23rd

(SALEM) - Marion County Public Works is offering free disposal of trees, limbs, bushes and other organic yard debris downed by Wednesday night's windstorm at the county's Brown's Island composting site.

Debris can be brought to the site from 8:00 to 4:00 PM this Saturday, December 16th, and next Saturday, December 23rd. This offer is extended only to Marion County residents.

The composting site is off South River Road at 3295 Faragate St. SE. Take Homestead Road to its intersection with Faragate.

One Dead in Crash Near Aurora

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

(AURORA) - On Friday, Marion County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a reported motorcycle vs van crash at the intersection of Ehlen Road and Boones Ferry Rd NE near the city of Aurora.

The crash caused the intersection to be closed down for over six hours while members of the Marion County Multi Agency CRASH investigation team investigated the incident.

Two Salem Teens Arrested For Shooting Cow For Meat

The teens told deputies that they went to the farm with the intent of killing the cow and that they wanted the meat.

(SALEM) - 118-year-old Derek Becker of Salem On Wednesday, November 8th, Marion County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call from Donald Jones, a farmer who lives at 6611 Liberty Rd S, south of Salem.

Jones told deputies that someone had killed one of his cows and had cut the cow up and had taken a portion of the cow’s body.

When deputies arrived, they found that the cow had apparently been shot and cut apart with two steak knives that were still at the scene.

Man Starts Fire in Salem Oregon Church Amid Congregation of Several Hundred

Investigators are on scene trying to determine exactly what happened.

(SALEM) - fire investigation logo A man is in custody tonight for starting a fire inside the People’s Church on Lancaster Drive in Salem, while several hundred people were inside the building.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Kevin Rau says the incident started around 7:30 PM. The suspect is accused of hijacking a local yellow cab and placing a knife to the throat of the taxi driver.

Marion County Agencies Participate in Nationwide Domestic Violence Offender Sweep

The goal of this event is to send messages to offenders that they will be held to account and to victims of domestic violence that there is hope and that others do care.

(SALEM) - Domestic violence ots Twenty-eight representatives from area law enforcement agencies participated in the nationwide domestic violence sweeps this week. The team arrested 18 people over a 7-hour period on outstanding arrest warrants for domestic violence related crimes. Four of those people were also arrested on new charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Agencies participating included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Parole and Probation and Patrol Divisions, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department and the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies Receive Awards From State Marine Board

The Sheriff’s Office program was one of five agencies nominated from across the state for the Program of the Year award.

(SALEM) - Marion County Sheriffs car in Salem Oregon On Wednesday, the Oregon State Marine Board presented awards at their annual Marine Board Post Season Marine Safety and Law Enforcement Conference in Bend.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol received awards for Most Improved Yearly Program and the Board’s Education Award.

Deputy Dave Zahn, the Sheriff’s Office’s only full time Marine Enforcement Deputy, received the award for outstanding Boating Under the Influence enforcement. Sergeant Tim Steele, who supervises the program, was the co-winner of the Manager of the Year award.
