Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies Receive Awards From State Marine Board

The Sheriff’s Office program was one of five agencies nominated from across the state for the Program of the Year award.

(SALEM) - On Wednesday, the Oregon State Marine Board presented awards at their annual Marine Board Post Season Marine Safety and Law Enforcement Conference in Bend.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol received awards for Most Improved Yearly Program and the Board’s Education Award.

Deputy Dave Zahn, the Sheriff’s Office’s only full time Marine Enforcement Deputy, received the award for outstanding Boating Under the Influence enforcement.

Sergeant Tim Steele, who supervises the program, was the co-winner of the Manager of the Year award. Reserve Deputy Richard Berkey was presented with the Volunteer Recognition award for participation in the marine enforcement program.

“We are very proud of the outstanding work done by the members of our Marine Patrol year in and year out. Their efforts exemplify the highest professional standards of the Sheriff’s Office and outstanding service to the citizens of Marion County”, Said Marion County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Greg Olson.
