State Report Card: All Salem-Keizer Schools Are Satisfactory or Higher

Five schools improved their rating from the previous year, including McKay High School and Parrish Middle School who went from “low” to “satisfactory”.

(SALEM) - Salem-Keizer girls in school State Report Cards were released Wednesday and show that 100% of Salem-Keizer rated schools received a satisfactory or higher mark for 2005-06.

Salem Man Flees on Foot From Stolen Car – North of Brooks

27-year-old Enrique Aguero pulled the truck into the grass and fled on foot.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Aguero Enrique Just after 6:30 this morning, Deputies received a call that a blue 1990 Nissan pick-up had been stolen from 4104 46th Ave NE in Salem.

The owner was calling from his cell phone reporting that he was following the truck.

New Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing Equipment Being Installed in Marion County

(SALEM) - Intoxilyzer 8000 The new Intoxilyzer 8000 Breath Testing equipment is being installed at seven Marion County area law enforcement agency locations Wednesday, replacing the current Intoxilyzer 5000 models that have been in use for over twelve years.

Officials say installation in other areas of the State will be phased in over the next several months.

The Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division is installing the new breath testing equipment at the following Marion County area locations:

Marion, Linn County Backyard Burning Ban to be Extended

The open burning ban that goes into effect Oct. 1st encompasses the following communities in Linn and Marion counties: Detroit, Gates, Lyons, Mill City, Stayton, Scio, Sublimity, Silverton and Drake's Crossing.

(SALEM) - Backyard fire The current ban on backyard debris burning in the North Cascade Forest Protection District instituted by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to preserve air quality will expire at 12:01 AM on Oct. 1st.

But the Oregon Department of Forestry announced Monday that it will continue the prohibition on open burning after that date due to wildfire danger.

Sheriff’s Office Holding Citizens Police Academy This Fall

The academy is free of charge and is open to adults eighteen years of age and older.

Training dates will be October 28th, November 4th, 11th, and 18th.

Marion Courthouse Plunger Gets 16 Years for Courthouse Rampage

The man who drove his pickup through the courthouse and started fires inside pled guilty to 13 counts.

(SALEM) - Chris Millis in court A man who went on a full rampage through the Marion County Courthouse last year lighting fires and threatening police will spend the next several years in Oregon's penal system.

38-year old Christopher Lee Millis of Keizer crashed his pickup into the Marion County Courthouse last year and set fires inside that would lead to the eventual total restoration of the county building built originally in the 1950's.

Marion County Courthouse Rededication Ceremony Set

It's been a long time since all of the employees of the regular courthouse shared the same space.

(SALEM) - A public ceremony to rededicate the Marion County Courthouse will be held Tuesday, September 5th at 2:00 PM.
The courthouse is located at 100 High Street NE in Salem.

Presiding Judge Paul Lipscomb will act as master of ceremonies for the event to mark completion of the restoration of the courthouse after extensive damage incurred late last fall.

Christopher Millis was convicted today of driving his pickup truck through the front doors of the courthouse November 12th, firing shots into offices, and setting fires inside.
