(SALEM) - State Report Cards were released Wednesday and show that 100% of Salem-Keizer rated schools received a satisfactory or higher mark for 2005-06.

Among the data released by the Oregon Department of Education, there is positive news for Salem-Keizer Public Schools.

Sixty-one out of 66 schools that received a State rating on the School Report Card got a “satisfactory” or higher mark. And based on the report, our schools continue to show a positive academic achievement trend.

Thirteen schools were listed as showing improvement under the improvement section.

All of the rated schools received an “exceptional” rating in the school characteristics category for testing more than 95% of students.

None of the schools received an overall rating of “unacceptable” or “low”.

Five schools improved their rating from the previous year, including McKay High School and Parrish Middle School who went from “low” to “satisfactory”.

“This is a reflection of our state assessment scores that showed steady improvement. We’re heading in the right direction, and it’s thanks to the commitment of staff, parents, community members and our students,” said Superintendent Sandy Husk.

Steve-Albany: Can understand easily now why you wish NOT to be ID'd and are so frightened by "going postal". Try a new floatie where it hurts the most.

Henry Ruark October 13, 2006 5:24 pm (Pacific time)

Steve: As I assumed, you have no working knowledge of what a teacher must do and how it must be supported. When you choose to learn, rather than push b-b for feeling-tone covering anything you choose to call "opinion", contact Tim at S-N address, for ID and email so we can continue this as decent dialog. You define yourself when you admit using channel-here and do not even know who produces it or why.

Hanky Panky: Not being a teacher, how would I have a chance to "handle a class." Having had kids in school and having worked in a school environment, I can speak with a bit of "knowledge." So don't ridicle me and my ideas/thoughts. As far as "Tim" don't have a clue who the hell you refer. I prefer to keep it on a "first-name" basis because of al the wackos out there. Used to be youcould have an honest dialogue with people, but any more, the "other guy" will "go postal" if he (or she) don't like your ideas.

Henry Ruark October 13, 2006 2:35 pm (Pacific time)

Steve-Albany: Mine to you was not to see if you visited, but if you had ever had to handle a class, and be responsible. Obviously NOT -- so rest is simple as for others uninformed: Send emailer to Tim and ID-self and background, then we can dialog to decent understandings on both sides...until then you simply pressing idiot's b-button...

First off, it has been a few years since viewing a classroom. But I tire of the schools continually asking for more and more $$$. As a taxpayer and a citizen. When do you stop and tell them to better utilize the money they are receiving. And if the classrooms are in such disorder then we need to look at better ways to control the classrooms so the kids there can learn not have a party. Get rid of ALL bilingual classes. English or go home. Come back when you can speak the language. It worked in the days of my father and it will work now. I find the salaries of teachers to be outlandish in most cases. Especially when many of them need to be sent down the road because they haven't got the common sense and abilities to teach a dog obedience class. But go back to my original statement. With all the money being spent, a minimum of 10-12 thousand per kid, there should be better results than that. Maybe the schools need to be segregated. Thaose who want to learn and those who don't. The crummy teachers could keep there big $$ and teach the "don't cares," and the good teachers could teach the "do cares."

Lela et al: Must confess wife of 60 years, BCR, departed '02-Altheimers, was first activist in this family. Here's her working slogan: "Keeping quiet will never start the riot" ...BCR 1982 SO now you know from whence cometh the intensities...

Henry, I love it when you challenge these people who seem to think they know all the facts. Enjoy your comments and your wit. Keep them coming.

Steve: Forgot to ask standard question for all-such: When was the last day you spent in a classroom captured by 20-plus teenagers ???

Henry Ruark October 12, 2006 5:16 pm (Pacific time)

Steve: You continue to spout off in the face of solid factual information. Send Tim your emailer and ID and I'll supply you 50 pages of refutation within the hour. Depends on what you are able to understand, and that in turn has to hang on facts, such as huge shift of corporate tax burden-share to Oregon homeowners, as I assume you are.

With all the $$$$$$$ the schools are getting and the results are "SATISFACTORY!!!!" With all the $$$$$ the teachers get paid and all they can do is make the kids "SATISFACTORY??????" HOGWASH!
