Juveniles Arrested After Haz Mat Incident Revealed Stolen Material

(KEIZER) - Keizer Fire vehicle Officers from the Keizer Police Department and Keizer Fire Department responded to a reported spill of an unknown substance along the stretch of Willow Lake RD N at about the 1100 block.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the spill was much bigger then was initially reported and it covered about a three block stretch of roadway and because it was airborne, it continued to disperse over a larger area.

Three Arrested in Keizer Assault

(SALEM) - handcuffed hands Police have made three arrests in a recent assault that involved the alleged beating and robbery of a lone woman walking on Chemawa Road. Armanda Cabigas reported that on Wednesday night, she was robbed of her purse and coat by at least three males who were in a white vehicle.

Cabigas said she was struck in the face and knocked to the ground. She said that she was then kicked when she was down on the ground, while the suspects took off her coat and stole her purse. Police in Keizer say the assault was unprovoked, and left Armanda Cabigas with significant bruising and a fractured nose.

Police to Hold Presentation on Oregon Traffic Safety Laws in Spanish

Keizer police say traffic enforcement is only one of several important components of traffic safety to keep Oregon roadways safe.

(KEIZER) - Keizer Police sign The Keizer Police Department will be presenting a free community presentation in Spanish on Oregon traffic laws, including information on obtaining an Oregon Driver’s License, as part of the educational component to seek voluntary compliance in reducing dangerous driving behavior and motor vehicle crashes.

The class will cover the basic rules of the road, the most commonly observed traffic violations, the most dangerous driving behaviors and information on how to prepare for the licensing test.

The class is free and registration is not required.

Police Investigate Robbery and Assault in Keizer (UPDATE)

Salem Police identified the vehicle but it's driver gave chase and police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons, but not before gettign a positive I.D. They now know the license plate is YHZ 877, the car is is a white 1992 Chevrolet Lumina four door.

(KEIZER) - Police lights and graphics Police say a Keizer woman was the victim of a beating and robbery that happened Tuesday night. The victim, 34-year old Armanda Cabigas, reported the incident around 10:00 AM this morning.

She reported that as she walked in the 800 block of Chemawa Road NE, the three suspects exited their car and approached her. She was struck hard enough that she became unconscious.

Thatcher Conducts Corrections Fact-Finding Tour

Thatcher says she wants to help counties get the state resources they deserve for jail and community corrections.

(KEIZER) - Kim Thatcher “I wanted a first hand look at the challenges facing our corrections system in Oregon, “said State Representative Kim Thatcher R-Keizer.

In the past few days Thatcher toured the Yamhill County Jail in McMinnville and the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, both near her legislative district.

Thatcher served on the House Judiciary Committee last legislative session and is currently drafting several public safety measures to introduce next year.

Salem-Keizer School Board Gets Down to Business

The good news from Tuesday’s meeting is the ratification of a four-year teacher contract agreement between the teacher’s union and the school district.

(SALEM) - Salem-Keizer School Board Tuesday night’s Salem-Keizer School Board Meeting opened on time and with a current of positive enthusiasm.

Chairperson Krina Lemons opened the meeting with the usual preliminaries and welcomed the Board back to the beginning of a new school year.

Superintendent Sandy Husk began the early evening meeting by highlighting a new award program, Spotlight for Success.

Motor Vehicle Crash Injures Motorcyclist in Keizer

(SALEM) - Crash Investigation OTS style art Police investigators in Keizer are trying to determine exactly why a northbound motorcycle collided with a van Monday afternoonb on River Road, north of Chemawa Road.

Sgt. Bob Trump with Keizer Police says the 22 year old motorcyclist was transported to a Portland area hospital from Salem Hospital with serious injuries from the 3:20 PM crash.

The wreck restricted northbound traffic for River Road, north of Chemawa Road Monday for about an hour.

Keizer Fire District Ceremony Set to Remember 9-11 Attack

(KEIZER) - Shots of previous 911 ceremony in Keizer The Keizer Fire District will remember the tragic events and those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001

A remembrance ceremony, on the fifth anniversary of this tragic event, will be held on Monday, September 11, 2006 and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 am. The time of the ceremony is to coincide with the time the two towers of the World Trade Center collapsed.

The memorial is to honor those whose lives were lost in the attacks.

Short Police Pursuit Lands Richland, Washington Woman in Jail

(KEIZER) - On Sunday, an officer from the Keizer Police Department attempted to stop a blue 1990 Chevrolet Astro van for a traffic violation.

When the officer initiated the traffic stop using his emergency lights and siren, the driver of the van continued to drive and would not stop.

The driver of the van led the police on a 2.5 mile vehicle pursuit, which involved officers from the Keizer Police and the Salem Police Departments.

The vehicle finally stopped in the 3800 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Salem, where the passenger of the vehicle fled on foot.
