Mount Union Survives Scare to Remain #1.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Willamette University logoThe Willamette University football team remained #17 this week in the D3Football.com Top 25. Willamette, 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northwest Conference, has won five consecutive games.

Mount Union College (Ohio), the defending NCAA Division III national champion, 5-0 on the season, stayed at #1 after a 28-21 victory over Capital University on Saturday (Oct. 10).

Lead Collapses Late in Loss to Corban

Corban improves to 2-8-1 on the season and pick up their first win since their season-opener.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Corban College logoThe Northwest Christian University men’s soccer team came back from an early deficit only to see their own lead fade away late in a 3-2 loss to Corban College in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Mike Kelly Field on Tuesday night.

Corban got the scoring underway in the 27th minute when Travis Wells found the 6-foot 3-inch frame of Ayouba Moussa on a cross, with Moussa hitting a header into the upper corner of the net.

UO Soccer Travels for Rivalry Match Against Oregon State‏

The latest roundup from the Oregon Ducks.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Oregon Ducks logoThe University of Oregon soccer team (8-4-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10) will continue Pac-10 Conference play this Friday with a road match against rival Oregon State (8-4-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10). Match-time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PT) at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore. Live statistics for the match will be available on osubeavers.com.

Oregon is 6-4-3 all-time against Oregon State. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in last year’s battle played at Pape’ Field in Eugene, and a 2-2 draw back in 2007 in a match played in Corvallis.

Whitworth Invitational: Bruins Edge Boxers by One Stroke for 3rd Place

Coming up next for the Bruins is their final match of the fall, the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18

(SPOKANE, Ore.) - George Fox University logoDropping 11 strokes off their first day’s score, the George Fox University Bruins made up a six-stroke difference and edged Pacific University by one shot for third place in the Whitworth University Invitational men’s golf tournament held Sunday and Monday here at the Spokane Country Club course.

After shooting a 327 on Sunday to stand fourth in the six-team event, the Bruins shot a 316 on the second day to finish at 643. Host Whitworth took first place with a 310-300=610, followed by Linfield College with a 315-298=613, George Fox, Pacific with a 321-323=644, Whitman College with a 330-319=649, and Pacific Lutheran University with a 337-313=650.

Agarycheva Falls to Olbrich in Three Sets in Championship Match at ITA Regional

Willamette's next action will be in the spring during the dual match season. The Bearcats compete in the Northwest Conference.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Willamette University logoNatalia Agarycheva (Jr., Vancouver, WA/Prairie HS/Univ. of Northern Colorado) of Willamette University lost to Abby Olbrich of Linfield College in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the finals of the Wilson/ITA Small College Northwest Regional Women's Tennis Championship on Monday, Oct. 5.

Agarycheva and Shannon Palmer (So., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) reached the finals in doubles before losing to Olbrich and Sallie Katter, 8-6.

Duck Volleyball Tabbed No. 11 in Sixth AVCA Poll

In recent weeks, Oregon ranked seventh the last two editions to match its second-best mark ever that it also held in two editions last October.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - The University of Oregon volleyball team ranked 11th nationally and third among the season-high eight Pac-10 teams sighted in this week’s sixth edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll released Monday.

UO (11-2, 1-2) trailed only No. 3 Washington (14-0, 4-0) and No. 7 Stanford (9-4, 2-1) in the “Conference of Champions”, which continued to dominate the weekly rankings.

Men’s Soccer Opens up Conference Play against UCLA

Oregon State holds the all-time series lead with San Diego State at 6-4-1.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - OSU Beavers logoThe Oregon State men’s soccer team opens up conference play this weekend starting with the No. 4 UCLA Bruins Friday, October 2 at Paul Lorenz Field with a kickoff set at 7:00 p.m.

The Beavers (4-2-2 overall, 0-0-0 Pac-10 Conference) enter the weekend with a 3-1-0 home record after winning their last game at home in dramatic fashion thanks to a golden goal in the second minute of overtime from sophomore Danny Mwanga for the 1-0 victory against Marist College.

Dan Steele‏ Leaves UO for Northern Iowa

As an athlete, Steele competed as the brakeman on the Olympic bronze medal four-man bobsled team for the United States at the 2002 Games.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Dan Steele‏ Associate Director of Track and Field Dan Steele has resigned his position at the University of Oregon to accept the job of Head Men's and Womrn's Track and Field/Cross Country Coach at the University of Northern Iowa, UNI Director of Athletics Troy Dannen announced Tuesday.

“I would like to thank the University of Oregon for seven truly amazing years and the wonderful opportunities afforded to me," said Steele. My experiences as a member of this excellent program and my association with such special student-athletes have had a profound effect on me.

Paton Nabs Silver in Varsity Debut

Ducks take third at Giustina Memorial Classic.

(CORVALLIS, Ore,) - University of Oregon's John PatonJohn Paton shot a final round 69 to lead Oregon to a third place finish Tuesday at the season-opening Giustina Memorial Classic, played at the par-72, 7,030-yard Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Paton’s 69 left him at 8-under 208 overall and alone in second place, just one shot back of tournament champion Trent Sanders of Washington State, who had a 71 and finished at 207.

Not bad for a redshirt-sophomore from Hillsborough, Calif., playing in his first varsity tournament at Oregon.
