Men’s Soccer Opens up Conference Play against UCLA

Oregon State holds the all-time series lead with San Diego State at 6-4-1.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men’s soccer team opens up conference play this weekend starting with the No. 4 UCLA Bruins Friday, October 2 at Paul Lorenz Field with a kickoff set at 7:00 p.m.

The Beavers (4-2-2 overall, 0-0-0 Pac-10 Conference) enter the weekend with a 3-1-0 home record after winning their last game at home in dramatic fashion thanks to a golden goal in the second minute of overtime from sophomore Danny Mwanga for the 1-0 victory against Marist College.

Mwanga leads the team in goals scored and is second in the conference with five. He also leads all Beavers in shots and shots on goal.

The Bruins (5-1-0, 0-0-0) enter the match ranked No. 4 in the country according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. They are led by Kyle Nakazawa who has four goals on the season. They have allowed only four goals all season.

Oregon State holds a 4-19-0 record against UCLA and has lost the last seven straight matches. It’s last win was a 2005, 1-0 victory in Corvallis.

The Beavers continue conference play this weekend when they also host the San Diego State Aztecs Sunday October 4 with a 1:00 p.m. start time.

The Aztecs (3-2-2, 0-0-0) are coming into the weekend with a two game win streak after defeating UC Santa Barbara and Princeton last weekend. Their leading scorer is Evan Toft who currently has four goals.

Oregon State holds the all-time series lead with San Diego State at 6-4-1. It swept the season series last year and the last time it lost to San Diego State was a 0-3 loss in 2007.

The Beavers hosted their annual Hensor/Zaher Memorial Classic last weekend and went 1-1 with a loss to Northern Illinois and the last minute victory over Marist.
