KEIZER, Ore. - The San Francisco Giants are sending seven (7) former Salem-Keizer Volcanoes players to their first World Series. The list includes: Tim Lincecum (’06), Sergio Romo (’05), Jonathan Sanchez (’04), Travis Ishikawa (’02-’03), Pablo Sandoval (’05), Nate Schierholtz (’03) and Buster Posey (’08), they all started their professional careers with the Volcanoes. Other Volcanoes who are currently with the Giants, but were not included on the Giants’ 25-man post season roster, include: Ryan Rohlinger (’06), Emmanuel Burriss (’06), and Dan Runzler (’07).

In addition, former Volcanoes Manager Steve Decker (’05-’07), a resident of Keizer, was called up to San Francisco in early September and has served as a Giants’ coach during the last month of the major league season and during the Giants’ post-season run. Deck will be with the Giants for the World Series too...

Since the Volcanoes first began play in Salem-Keizer the club has seen sixty (60) of their former players make it to the big leagues. “We’ve been fortunate to enjoy a great run of success over the years and have a long list of terrific players who have played at Volcanoes Stadium,” noted Jerry Walker, General Manager of the Volcanoes. Since their inaugural season in 1997 the Volcanoes have won 7 Northwest League Division Championships and 5 Northwest League Championships. "Now, the Giants are reaping the benefits of these very talented players," Walker added. "It's very exciting to watch and I'm sure it's fun for our fans who remember these guys while they were here in Salem-Keizer", concluded Walker.

Interestingly the Giants' opponent in the World Series, the Texas Rangers, also have an affiliate in the Northwest League who plays at Volcanoes Stadium every summer -- The Spokane Indians.
