EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon soccer team (8-4-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10) will continue Pac-10 Conference play this Friday with a road match against rival Oregon State (8-4-1, 0-2-0 Pac-10). Match-time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PT) at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore. Live statistics for the match will be available on osubeavers.com. Oregon is 6-4-3 all-time against Oregon State. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in last year’s battle played at Pape’ Field in Eugene, and a 2-2 draw back in 2007 in a match played in Corvallis. The Ducks’ last win in the series came at home in 2006, a 2-1 overtime victory. UO is 26-75-14 all-time in Pac-10 matches. The Ducks dropped a pair of matches last weekend, falling 2-1 to No. 21 California on Friday before a 5-1 loss to No. 1 Stanford on Sunday. THIS WEEK IN THE PAC-10 CONFERENCE Fri., Oct. 16 Sun., Oct. 18 DUCKS NO. 18 IN SEASON’S FIRST RPI REPORT Oregon (No. 18) is one of seven Pac-10 schools ranked in the top 22 of the NCAA’s first RPI report published Monday, Oct. 5 (2-Stanford, 8-UCLA, 10-Arizona State, 17-USC, 21-Oregon State, 22-Washington State). BOWNS HOLDS ALL-TIME ASSIST MARK, OTHER DUCKS MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS Senior midfielder Teresa Bowns, senior defender Danielle Sweeney, junior forward Jen Stoltenberg and sophomore goalkeeper Cody Miles are working their way into the history book at UO. Bowns broke the school record for assists in UO’s win over Weber State. (Complete top 10 lists on page three) • Bowns ranks first in assists (16), third in shots (164), t-fifth in points (36) and t-seventh in goals (12). • Sweeney ranks tied for fourth in assists (11). • Stoltenberg is fourth in points (45), fourth in shots (134), t-fourth in assists (11) and fifth in goals (17). • Miles ranks tied for second in shutouts (11), third in goalkeeper wins (17) and fifth in saves (120). ARMSTRONG RANKED NATIONALLY IN ASSISTS Freshman forward Julie Armstrong, from Delta, B.C., ranks tied for 26th in the nation in assists per game (0.5 apg). Armstrong has six assists on the season, which includes a stretch of four consecutive matches with at least one assist. She tallied two assists (and a goal) in UO’s 4-1 win over then No. 21 Denver in September. LAST TIME OUT: STANFORD 5, OREGON 1 The top-ranked Stanford Cardinal defeated Oregon 5-1 last Sunday at Pape’ Field in Eugene. The Ducks dropped to 8-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in Pac-10 Conference play with the loss. Stanford improved to 13-0-0, 2-0-0 in league action. Oregon’s only score of the match came off a corner kick in the 25th minute, a header goal by freshman midfielder Lauren Thompson. Freshman midfielder Scout Libke took the corner with the right foot, sent a pass into the middle of the 18-yard box, where Thompson one-timed the header past SU goalkeeper Kira Maker. The goal was the first of Thompson’s career at UO and Libke’s second assist of the season. Five Oregon players recorded a shot in the contest, with Thompson and Mansfield recording shots on goal. Senior defender Danielle Sweeney, junior midfielder Kirstie Kuhns and freshman forward Julie Armstrong all took one shot. PREVIOUS MATCH: CALIFORNIA 2, OREGON 1 Oregon fell 2-1 to No. 21 California in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both schools last Friday in Eugene. The loss dropped the Ducks to 8-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league action. The Golden Bears improved to 7-3-1 on the year, 1-0-0 in conference action. Cal jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after scoring the match’s first goal just 1:28 into the contest. Forward Alex Morgan hit a free kick from 20 yards out on the right-hand side, and bent a shot past UO sophomore goalkeeper Cody Miles. The goal was Morgan’s ninth of the season. The Ducks equalized the match in the 48th minute on a goal by senior midfielder Teresa Bowns. Freshman midfielder Scout Libke started with possession in the attacking third, played it out wide to Bowns who one-timed a left-footed shot past Cal goalkeeper Rosie Aguilera. The goal was Bowns’ third of the season and Libke’s first assist of the year. Less than 60 seconds later, Cal forward Lisa Kevorkian scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute, assisted by Morgan. It began with a ball played forward by Morgan which deflected off the hands of Miles. Kevorkian came up with the loose ball and scored into an empty net.
