Marijuana: Oregonian Pointedly Promotes Pot - What a Reversal After All These Years

What about the medical side of medical marijuana?

Oregon marijuana state

(PORTLAND, OR) - The Oregonian, previously to its several current positive articles, has been egregiously against any aspect of medical marijuana from the start in 1999 using the words “pothead”, “pot doctors”, “illegal drugs” and any pejorative word in their “pot lexicon”.

The current barrage of positive articles, especially those by Noelle Crombie, are a refreshing change but she hasn't yet written about the medical side of medical marijuana which is about this 5000 year old medical miracle safely effective for about 200 disparate medical conditions.

Cannabis/marijuana has been used medically in the U.S. since the Spanish brought it to Florida in the early 1500’s. It probably came to the U.S. in the early 1600’s when hemp was a legally required crop for rope for the British Navy.

It is known that Washington, Jefferson and Franklin had it in their gardens but not for decoration. Cannabis/marijuana, as medicine, really got started about 1850 after it was introduced into England by O’Shaughnessy and used by Queen Victoria for ALL of her 11 pregnancies. It was gratefully considered a miracle drug and was soon used in the United States for about 100 different medical conditions by several drug companies such as Eli Lilly, Parke-Davis, etc. which sold about 30 various combinations.

For anybody to think or consider that cannabis/marijuana as medicine is a product of the 1960’s in the U.S. is totally without any merit.

To argue that the scientific medical research has not been done is equally fallacious. The fact is that the U.S. Government will not permit it but there are about 10,000 medical articles substantiating its rational medical use.

The Oregonian is, in effect, advertising for the Mexican Mafia, how bad and how illegal the Oregon marijuana system is. Well, to be frank, the Oregon Legislature and the OMMP made it that way. Those of us on the patients’ medical marijuana side, have been trying to get legalized dispensaries for 14 years now but the Mexican Mafia, with the help of the legislature and OMMP, still controls the supply and price.

I hope Ms. Crombie will get to the medical marijuana aspects of this subject soon.
