The Oregonian: Medical Marijuana Slanderers

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - I thought I had seen enough slander of the medial Marijuana users in Oregon in the Oregonian article of October 21st- not so. They seem to experience cerebral orgasms by writing slanderous articles about a whole bunch (about 17,000) of legal and near legal marijuana users. These are really sick people and are certified by about 2,700 doctors.

The article on October 22nd under the headline: "Pot Ideas Will Test Acceptance" is just another slanderous article. It starts, "Oregonians prepare for reefer madness." Andy Dworkin of the Oregonian seems to get pleasure from calling it "dope".

Does he get the same pleasure from Oxycontin, Valium or Prozac which really are dope, as well as being very addicting, dangerous and lethal?

Dworkin even prints that more than 10 percent of Americans use marijuana. The figure is actually much larger, probably 20 percent. Oregon cops wrote marijuana citations to approximately 1,000 people last year, I'll bet many were medical permit holders, or people trying to find a doctor who would sign their permits.

The Oregon law making it a misdemeanor to possess marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school is crazy. That makes all users legal or otherwise, criminals, if they just happen to live within a certain geographic boundary that they did not necessarily seek in the first place.

Part of a new initiative will permit farmers to grow hemp which is one of the most valuable and useful plants ever used. It is good for hempseed oil, the first fuel of diesel engines, the most nutritious seed food for humans and animals, a true replacement for wood-based paper , a completely renewable replacement for many other wood products, a better replacement for cotton and nylon etc. It's just a good idea.

I hope Andy Dworkin and the Oregonian get educated SOMETIME.

It really is amazing how hostile the Oregonian is to OMMA. As for the 1000 foot near a school thing that is standard boilerplate all through section 475 of the ORS EXCEPT in the areas dealing with OMMA... which implies, though not saying outright, that the rule does not apply to OMMA card holders. The fact that the Keizer cops did not arrest Beasley immediately on knowing of the grow site also strongly suggests that OMMA patients, caregivers and growers are not subject to that rule. The odd thing in the Beasley case in Keizer is that the rules state outright that ANY medicinal use of cannabis is legal and covered which would include Beasley making hashish or hash oil. So unless they actually have him trying to sell the pot or hash (which I doubt they do) their arrest and charges are entirely bogus. I still think growing in a rental isn't bright though as you know the landlord was pressured from all sides to evict him which was done the day of the arrest. Ah well...
