(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Deputies in Multnomah County recovered medical marijuana, a grow light and other items from a car this morning that had apparently just been burglarized from a residence. Deputy Paul H. "Mac" McRedmond, Public Information Officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says it began at 11:33 a.m. when Corbett's off-duty Fire Chief spotted two suspicious women parked in a remote area on the side of NE Gordan Creek Road near Hogg Mill Road. "The Chief later saw the women's car pass by him while following a mini van at a high rate of speed," McRedmond said. "He called 911 and deputies were able to conduct a traffic stop on the two vehicles based upon traffic related probable cause. One of the vehicle drivers was taken into custody for failure to display a license." McRedmond says the deputy escorting the driver back to the patrol car noticed a person hiding in the back of the van. Deputies confronted the subject and discovered a second person hiding in the back of the van along with a small heap of marijuana plants (9), a grow light, a flat screen TV and numerous other items, McRedmond said. "A deputy returned to the nearby residence where the call originated and located the house that had been burglarized. The owner had just returned home and found that her door had been forced open and that her house was completely ransacked." McRedmond says she showed the deputy her Department of Human Services paperwork that authorized her to grow marijuana for herself and several others. Evidence of burglary tools were found in possession of the suspects and five suspects were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on varying charges that included Burglary, Possession of Controlled Substances, Distribution of a Controlled Substance (DCS) and DCS w/ 1000 feet of a school. The Corbett community has had five incidents of Burglary since September. Articles for March 2, 2009 | Articles for March 3, 2009 | Articles for March 4, 2009 | Support Salem-News.com: Quick Links
