Torturer, Terrorist and Other Hateful Names for our Enemies

Phillip Leveque has spent his life as a Combat Infantryman, Physician and Toxicologist.

I was seriously berated, called a "Nazi war monger" and a "demented racist" for calling my sworn enemy a "kraut". It was easier than calling them a Nazi or National Socialist. It is much easier to deride and hate an enemy who is trying to kill a soldier and his buddies.

To call me a "racist" because of using the above appellation "kraut" is beyond ludicrous. My wife was Jewish German and a Holocaust survivor. I called her "kraut pants" as an affectionate term. My great-grandfather was a kraut. I am also part "mick", part "jock" (Scotch), part "limey" and also half frog.

I have friends of every color and nationality. My foster son is a Pakistani Moslem.

I taught in Africa for two years. My students were from a dozen different African tribes as well as Pakistan and India. When I left I was presented with a Chief's cane and an invitation to return.

My closest high school friend was Japanese and one Japanese boy was named after me. Two others were named after my mother and uncle.

On July 21, 2008, Vic and Anonymous are the ones who assaulted me. I only hope they will never be in my Army situation when I was brainwashed to kill "Japs", "Krauts" and "Wops".

You know, I enjoy this verbal sparring--kind of like debate class, but I really do not want to offend or hurt anyone. I have to respect the choices others have made in their lives even if I disagree, so to Dr Leveque and JB,and anyone else I may have offended , I apologize. This is all entertainment to me, but I realize that some may not see it that way. I was raised a Christian, and taught that as such, I had a duty to work for good and against what I perceived as evil. You know..the Thou shalt not kill..Love thine enemies and pray for those who spitefully use you...all that left wing pussy Jesus stuff. As I have gotten older, I have given up on religion, as it seems to be nothing more than hollow words and promises. The meek inherit nothing but grief, and evil prospers in this world and good people suffer. I am bitter and disillusioned and it comes through in my comments. I dont like it, but I am becoming that which I hated. I should quit voicing my opinions on S-N and not rain on the war-hero circle-jerk. I have a lot of respect for Tim and Bonnie and still cannot understand why people like them would join the Marines. Unlike a lot of you, I am willing to admit that I do not know everything. Im sure I can find other sites to haunt.

JB. for once I agree with you re the arguing with a fool. It must be tough being a washed up old has been-never was, and the best thing you can cling to for a feeling of self-worth is how many people you killed. What a tough guy..I have more respect for retired school teachers that you ridicule than any of you dime-store mercenaries. Speaking of Mark Twain, have you ever read his War Prayer? Change your Depends and give it a read. You probably won't get it, but it ia a parody of people like you..

You are right, like Mark twain said. "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference." It's just sad to see people like him laugh in the face of people like Dr. Leveque who fought to protect the freedoms he enjoys today.

JB I suggest you ignore Vic, he has issues with veterans and also the discipline of history is obviously not one of his best topics. You may be familiar with those who always seem to state something along the lines that "...if we are attacked I will be the first to fight." I think it's pretty clear what's going on with this individual. Of course if he would like to share his sources about Japan's intention to surrender, that would be great. If accurate I suggest you buy stock in history book publishing organizations as they re-write history.

Actually, JB..I know a lot about history. Did you know that when the first atomic bomb was dropped, a delegation of Japanese were in Washington DC to negotiate a SURRENDER? Did you know that the reason they were dropped was to send a message to Stalin/Russia? The argument you raised has been thoroughly debunked repeatedly, but humans, including myself, tend to overlook facts that do not fit their opinions..that is much easier than self examination or admitting that you were wrong. As far as the free spell-check, I thought it was ironic that you accused me of ignorance, yet couldnt spell correctly.

I dont care what you have done in your past..your article that I reponded to was a hate filled rant and incitement to kill prisoners of war. As far as torture goes, that is what WE are known for now...are you proud ? JB, to say that two countries the size of Oregon could or would have destroyed this country is ridiculous. The "guy with the rifle" on any side, unless he was drafted and unless our country is being invaded is a sociopathic killer,or a damn idiot period. You kill-em-all types are sick in the head, and I have no sympathy for any of you. YOU are the ones that cant think for yourselves and are responsible for bankrupting this country monetarily and morally. And the funny thing is, some of you even have the gall to call yourselves Christians. When our country is INVADED (like we do to other countries regularly), I will be the first to fight..but it has NEVER HAPPENED !!!!! WE are the invaders, torturers and rapists...the ones who kick in doors, throw grenades into houses full of sleeping children and execute prisoners..not to mention the only ones to drop atomic bombs on civilian cities. I bet that makes you proud, didnt it ? I have never criticized you or even commented on your articles till the last one..and I was not the only one who thought you were out of line. The military industrial complex thrives on people like you and JB, that unquestioningly sign up to invade and kill so that they can make lots and lots of money. Can you say DUPE? I know many enlistees have good intentions, but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. And JB...I am UNGRATEFUL, not "ungreatful".

Dr. Leveque, Despite what a lot of ungreatful people think I wanted to let you know that am greatful for you and everyone else who saved this country during WWII. Most of the ignorant people, like the Vics of the world have no idea that you guys saved this country from toatal destruction by Japan and Germany. If you would have failed us we would be eating saurkraut on the east coast and fish heads on the west coast and would not exist as the great nation we are today. Even with the problems we got you don't see any people moving to Pakistan, thank you. PS I read your dog face soldier book and really enjoyed it, being the lowly grunt hasn't changed much since your time but it still is the guy with the rifle who always has to do what others are unable or unwilling to do.
