(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Marijuana (cannabis) therapeutics, the use of marijuana as medicine, is probably the most reviled medical substance ever found, which is ironic to the extreme. It is simultaneously the safest, most useful and most used medicine ever found. The patients who use marijuana are reviled as pot heads which is about pejorative as possible. The physicians who aid patients who get the permits to grow, carry and use marijuana are reviled by medical boards and medical associations except for American College of Physicians, and especially oncologists, or cancer doctors, and HIV/AIDS doctors who know of its value for ameliorating cancer pain and also the nausea and vomiting of these two horrible diseases. Marijuana is also effective for treating about 50 disease conditions given in Storm Crow’s list and about 200 in Dr. Tod Mikuriya‘s list. Pseudo pharmacologists and many physicians protecting their financial turfs decry marijuana as medicine because it is so effective for so many diseases and patients can grow this good medicine in their back yard gardens. Chief of Police associations whine and cry that there are so many “pot users” they can’t arrest. Prosecuting attorneys are aghast that they cannot prosecute marijuana permit holders. Some judges seem to weep about the same medical patients. In the meantime, the public is coming to realize that marijuana is good, safe, effective medicine and thousands of medical patients are getting permits every week. Besides this, the US government says that about 15 million patients use marijuana as medicine every day - even though they may not have permits. The newspapers seem full of stories (free advertising) about marijuana users and the huge amounts of marijuana being smuggled into the country. IT IS BIG BUSINESS! Many “mainstream” prominent magazines such as Reason, Time, Forbes, Fortune, Scientific American, the Scientist, High Times, Cannabis Culture, 420 Magazine, High Life, Worcester magazine , and Elle; and dozens of major newspapers such as the New York Times, Washington Post, LA times, San Francisco Examiner, Seattle PI, and The Oregonian (...I could go on and on, but you get the idea) have come out of the medical marijuana closet by approaching and discussing this subject with truthfulness and objectivity. If Reverend Pat Robertson is on “our side” ...anything can happen. That’s proof in itself. Medical marijuana is here to stay and grow. ********************************************************** Do you have a a question, comment, or story to share with Dr. Leveque?
