Support Increases for Cannabis Legalization among Knesset Members

Magal's bill will repeal criminal penalties for the use of cannabis.

(TEL AVIV) - Yinon Magal, a member of the Knesset for the Jewish Home, revealed in an interview that he recently in his parliamentary activity smoked marijuana, which is illegal in Israel without a medical permit.

According to the report, he said in an interview with Channel ITV2 that he never delivered a speech or made decisions under the influence of light drugs as a Knesset member.

Magal who served as former Walla’s editor-in-chief also admitted of smoking marijuana in the election campaign. He also tries to legalize consumption of light drugs.

Magal earlier presented the bill to repeal criminal penalties for the use of "cannabis" which was endorsed by 22 party representatives of the Knesset.

Opponents of the plan introduced supporters as industrial drug lords and drug traffickers' supporters in Israel.
