Marijuana Dangers and the Oregonian Newspaper: Petty, Puerile, Pernicious Propaganda

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The Oregonian has been bitching about marijuana as medicine from the word “GO”. Every step toward allowing patients to use medicine has been met with a barrage of falsities and half-truths which their staff purported as fact. There have been a few factual statements but then some negative aspect has been thrown in.

Apparently the words pot, pothead, pot doctors and pot patients is at the front of their dictionaries because they use them so much.

They have directly or indirectly found someway to condemn anything about marijuana as medicine, as well as the doctors who know its benefits and the patients who use it.

All of them, in their words, are not only “delinquents”, but the doctors are “inducing and promoting delinquency or worse”.

Noel Crombie of the Oregonian has written about a dozen of these articles with very few positive, true statements. She doesn’t even admit that at least 47% of the voters were in favor, I guess she was empathetic with the 52% who wanted to prevent users from getting any kind of relief.

The vote for Ellen Rosenblum for Oregon Attorney General brought a lot of marijuana fans out of the closet but at the same time, divulged the attitude of the police, sheriffs, district attorneys, regular attorneys, and many elected officials.

Rosenblum and the public in general severely trounced those anti-marijuana clods.

State representative Andy Olson (is he a policeman now/former) says the new marijuana bill does not stop the abuses of the medical marijuana program. It is of interest to discover what these abuses are purported to be in view of the fact that marijuana has been used in Oregon and the U.S. in general for hundreds of years.

According to NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) the dangers of marijuana use are: Rapid heart rate, Increased blood pressure, Increased breathing, Red eyes, Dry mouth, Increased appetite, Slowed reaction time.

None of these are serious in any way, as compared to alcohol or tobacco. About 9% of users become “addicts”, this is far less than alcohol or tobacco, which are real killers. “Addiction” is a strong word in relation to marijuana, as the typical addiction side effects do not apply. However, marijuana users do have a dependence on it, even as a lifestyle choice as much as anything physical.

The effects on mood are: Euphoria, Calmness, Anxiety, Paranoia, Getting “stoned”. None of these are dangerous, and usually indicate a new, naive user.

The short term effects are supposed to be: Distorted sense of time, Paranoia, Radical or random thinking, Short term memory loss, Anxiety, Depression.

This sounds to me like a 2-martini lunch, but I am only guessing.

As far as real dangers are concerned, it is less dangerous than a Starbucks coffee or a McDonald’s hamburger.

Any contention that marijuana has no medical value can be countered by the fact that the U.S. Government and the FDA have released for prescription Marinol which is in effect, PURE marijuana, and the U.S. Government owns to Patent for marijuana use for many diseases.

The police and all anti-marijuana people constantly bleat that the marijuana program in Oregon is “out of control”. The legislature, the DHS, and the Oregon Medical Board have made it that way.

Instead of helping and aiding sick patients, they have, until now, made their medical situations worse.

This pothead saved Downtown Portlands ASS Twice ! one time when the Rouge pullunk Ag Company Caught fire Releasing large amount of dioxins and the other a truck full of unknown HAZardous Materials we left in DT.. Shortly after My Rescue of Rouge Pullunk AG company Washington D.C sent some gents to visit me and ask me to WORK for them with EPA ERCS team ...I hate the term pot head ... however...I'll point out It wasnt an issue as long as I could test clean for the drug test Which they would tell me when it was... So for you idiots that think we are unproductive...think again some of Us save you ass all the time and you dont know Squat about it ... MAKE"S ME SO MAD ,,,
