Thanksgiving Weather: Stormy Pattern May Cause Delays for 48.7 Million Americans

A storm will roll into the Northwest the middle of next week

(AccuWeather Global Weather Center) - weather changes A stormy pattern persisting into Thanksgiving will have impact on the busiest cross-country travel week of the year. More people travel farther during the week of Thanksgiving than any other week of the year.

AAA says 48.7 million Americans are projected to travel 50 miles or more from home Wednesday, Nov. 23, to Sunday, Nov. 27, which will be the greatest volume since 2007, just prior to the Great Recession.

High Wind Watch Issued for Western Oregon Areas

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - weather The National Weather Service has announced a High Wind Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening for the greater Portland and Vancouver metro area, the Willamette Valley, Lower Columbia and I-5 Corridor in Cowlitz County.

South to Southwest winds are expected to be 30 to 40 mph, with gusts to 60 mph.

Landslide Near Sea Lion Caves Closes Hwy 101

Travelers are advised to take alternate routes.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Oregon Hwy 101 U.S. 101 will be closed at milepost 178 Sunday night and into Monday following a landslide just north of Sea Lion Caves and south of the Cape Creek Tunnel, 11 miles north of Florence.

ODOT crews will be working through the night to clear the roadway, but cannot safely open to traffic until debris remaining on the hillside is cleared in daylight to ensure slope stability and safety for travelers.
