Severe Thunderstorm Warning for NW Oregon

Stay away from your windows, and prepare for loss of electricity.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The National Wether Service in Portland has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING.

At 10:58 a.m. PT the National Weather Service observing equipment indicated a line of severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from 7 miles south of Monmouth to near Creswell and moving northeast at 45 mph.

Winter Weather Advisory Alert for Snow in Willamette Valley

Target Areas: Cascade Foothills in Lane County, Central Coast Range of Western Oregon, Central Willamette Valley, Northern Oregon Cascade Foothills, South Willamette Valley

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - winter weather The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for valley areas for a mix of snow and sleet and freezing rain, in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

This system will spread light to briefly moderate precipitation across western Oregon Sunday morning, likely before temperatures have a chance to recover from a chilly night in the 20's.

Snow Expected Above 750 Elevation North of Salem

Special Weather Statement Issued by NWS Portland (Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington)

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - winter weather According to the National Weather Service, snow levels will be low Sunday morning for the greater Portland metro area, and the lower Columbia region.

Next, the new frontal system will spread precipitation to the north and central Willamette Valley, Clark County in SW Washington, and the I-5 corridor in Cowlitz County on Sunday. Snow levels Sunday morning will be around 500 to 1000 feet.

High Wind Warning Issued for NW Oregon and SW Washington by NWS

A wind storm is expected for much of NW Oregon and SW Washington on Monday. Winds will be increasing to 25 to 35 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Willamette River This storm is expected to produce a period of heavy rain Monday morning and early Monday afternoon, but the associated cold front is forecast to move south of northwest Oregon by late Monday – sooner than previously thought. This will limit the duration of the heavy rain and lessening the risk of flooding on area rivers.

However, the rain may be heavy enough at times for some localized urban flooding.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - rain drops The National Weather Service has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for the following counties through Friday morning, and may then be continued.

Heavy rain will continue through around 3 a.m. Friday, in addition to the several inches that have already fallen today. This may bring minor urban and small stream flooding through early Friday morning and create additional minor transportation issues on area highways and roads.

Amounts inland are expected to range from a trace to a few hundredths of an inch at most.

There is increasing confidence that some light snow, sleet, or freezing rain will fall especially in the colder, sheltered valleys of the coast range and the Cascade foothills, in the inland valleys including the Willamette Valley, the Columbia River Gorge, and upper Hood River Valley.

In the Days Leading to Thanksgiving, Red Cross Responds to Local Disasters 14 Times

The region is averaging two local disaster responses every day.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Red Cross Newport Red Cross volunteers in the Cascades Region responded to 14 incidents this past weekend, starting Friday evening in southeast Portland and culminating with seven home fire responses on Monday across Clark, Jefferson, Josephine, Lane, Multnomah, Polk and Washington counties.

The Red Cross provided support to more than three dozen people and pets, to meet basic immediate needs such as temporary lodging, food, medical support, clothing and personal hygiene items.
