Gas Prices Up Sharply in a Month with National Average Surpassing $2.50

The national average jumped ten cents in the past week to nearly $2.53, while Oregon's average for regular unleaded gains more than eight cents to $2.60.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump Pump prices are at a seven-month high. The national average passes the $2.50 a gallon mark, jumping ten cents in the past week to nearly $2.53.

Several factors are helping to spur crude's climb, including heavy investments based on confidence of a turnaround in the global economy, a weaker dollar, and comments by OPEC that there are signs of a recovery in oil demand, particularly in Asia.

USS Shoup Will Visit Portland Rose Festival

The Portland visit offers the public an opportunity to tour onboard the ship and meet the Sailors as they showcase the ship's capabilities.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, USS Shoup Sailors onboard U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, USS Shoup (DDG 86), will arrive on June 4th for the Rose Festival. The ship will cruise along the Willamette River and moor between the Steel and Burnside Bridges before 4 pm.

The Shoup, along with three Royal Canadian Navy ships and two U.S. Coast Guard cutters will be in Portland to celebrate the 102nd Rose Festival.

While church and state are separate in the United States, Oregon's government may be more interested in the welfare of churches than victims.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon attorney Kelly Clark talks to sex abuse victims Oregon sex abuse survivors joined Portland Attorney Kelly Clark at the capitol in Salem today, to attend a hearing for a bill that would extend the window of time sex abuse survivors have to take action against the person or people who abused them.

Oregon as a government, strongly condemns the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, yet politicians are struggling with this basic common sense answers for the people lucky enough to survive the abuse in the first place.

Sheriff Goes Back to the Beginning in Basic Police School

The agency that trains police in Oregon can grant a waiver if the applicant "has current knowledge and skills…" , but veteran cop Bob Skipper was sent back to square one.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Sheriff Sheriff at the range Multnomah Sheriff Bob Skipper is preparing to go back to the four-month Basic Police Recruit Academy, beginning June 22nd 2009.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand, Public Information Officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says that in preparation, Sheriff Skipper has been increasing his physical fitness routines, going through firearms qualifications and cutting down on fast food.

Gas Prices Edge Higher to Kick Off Summer Driving Season

Memorial Day has come and gone, and pump prices are still edging up. Oregon's average for regular unleaded gains eight cents in the past week to $2.51 while the national average jumps up 11 cents to $2.43. Still, prices are about a buck-fifty a gallon less than a year ago.

Portland Man Drowns in Spite of Rescue Effort

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office wants to remind the public that this time of the year, the waters in the rivers are cold, high and fast moving.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Drowning investigation Investigators say a 21-year old Portland man drowned Sunday night after being swept away by fast moving currents, while swimming in the Sandy River.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says Kirk Alexander Dunn was swimming with friends at the Sandy River near the Troutdale Bridge when he was caught by in swift current.
