(SALEM, Ore.) - Changes are happening fast right now at Salem-News.com, as the Salem-based Internet news group prepares to adopt the new name, OregonNewsJournal.com, and at the same time, launch an exciting new Internet video newscast for Oregon.

The only LIVE online newscast produced in Oregon by an independent news group, the initial program with news anchor Bonnie King, will be a five-minute live newscast slated for broadcast at 11:00 a.m. each weekday morning.

"Oregon News Journal Live at 11" will cover top stories, events and weather.

Today's technology makes yesterday seem like a long time ago. For five solid years, Salem-News.com has pushed the limits and accepted norms of electronic journalism in every way possible, and we have watched big changes take place.

For example, Salem-News.com struggled to receive video reports from our reporter in the combat zones in Afghanistan two and a half years ago, but then last summer the same reporter covered operations in Iraq and simply sent video reports back via email.

The point is that time is a good friend for Internet technology and things we never imagined being able to do five years ago are now every day operations.

In the process, our stories have often landed on the cover of Google News, Digg.com and other powerful news aggregators that bring us so much traffic some days that even our mega powerful server nearly shuts down.

The new name OregonNewsJournal.com reflects our coverage of Oregon at large and while we strive to be everywhere at once, our list of newsgathering resources has flourished, and "chasing ambulances" is less important than ever.

This approach also allows our ever expanding staff of writers to concentrate on important issues.

Endless options are the key to all of this. The Internet as a delivery vehicle, allows a viewer to select from a full spectrum of choices and call their shots in this new multi-media world. Maybe video is what they are looking for, or perhaps the large, clear photos, or the audio clips could be the draw. Perhaps that reader wants to leave a comment that elaborates on the story, or offers a different view.

It is indeed a whole new world when it comes to catching the latest news and information.

The video newscast beta trials will begin this week, utilizing amazing new technology that allows Internet news providers like Salem-News.com to reach up to ten thousand live viewers. It is quite literally, television for the Internet. We encourage you to watch as the show comes together.

The new and improved site, OregonNewsJournal.com, published by Salem-News.com, Inc. has more plans to expand, including more video, political programming, in depth sports and other exciting elements.

I love the new header , when will it be up ? You should have this story at the top of the page until the change so the readers will be less confused when the change comes .

Editor: Good call Daniel, we'll keep it closer to the top.  There are going to be a few days before we know exactly when the name will be launched but it is close.  We are also working out the issues with our Live Internet signal and the bugs are fleeing.  I think this will be a really unique service for Oregon and we are very excited about it!

"Way to go", Tim/ Bon. Can hardly wait to see and hear this one, and thanks for 11 a.m. time --just right for many.

I have Salem-news.com on my tool bar. In order to get the live program at 11, must I change the name now - or do I still get it under salem-news.co.? It sounds very exiting - and wish you lots of success.

Editor: Erna, it will always come up as Salem-News.com and it will have the new name also.  Everything should continue to work the way you have it and if it changes we will be sure to let you know, thanks!

SOUNDS GREAT, TIM, BE SURE I GET WHAT I NEED FOR CONTACT.

Do you have plans for local broadcast , as salem has no local broadcast news ? With the name change will you be giving more coverage to Portland and Oregon ?

Editor: Daniel, we have to pin down some details but the owner of Salem's relatively new TV station KWVT Channel-17 is owned by a group we are associated with and they have expressed strong interest in carrying this newscast as a local TV item for Salem.  To answer your second question, we have been covering the state at large and beyond frequently for some time, and while it will originate from Salem, and have local emphasis, it will also be a program that people throughout Oregon will benefit from.

Editor will the newscast only be on at 11 or will you run it thru the day ? Will you do a recap of the weeks stories on the weekend for those who missed during the week ? Thanks .

Editor: Great question Daniel; the newscast will run live and then that video panel will be replaced with a recorded version of the live program.  We will make all previous news programs available to watch so nothing is ever really missed.  I believe this is significantly better than television in many respects and the signal is strong enough from what we have seen for people to watch it full frame on their computer screens.  There are also devices that transfer an Internet program directly to a TV set.  You cause me to realize how much there is to this and while I don't want to overwhelm anyone, there is truly a lot in store and we are extremely excited about the changes.

I look forward to the upgrade and daily news show . Will you be reading some of the feedback blogs on the show for viewer input ?

Editor: Yes is the answer to that Daniel.  I think one of the things that has allowed us to grow is the simple fact that we appreciate every opinion and none are dismissed without a fair evaluation  Those who catch our news have many options, and one is to go to our video carrier's site and catch a feedback blog as you mentioned.  Viewers can actually make suggestions while the program is broadcast live.  We sincerely look forward to that viewer input.
