Snow Showers Creating Slick Conditions on Portland Streets

Neighborhood residential streets do not receive treatment in a snow and ice event, and snow and ice removal from sidewalks is the responsibility of the adjacent property owner.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon Today's surprise snowfall is creating hazardous driving conditions for Portland motorists all over the city, especially in the West Hills where the Portland Bureau of Transportation is responding to reports of slick streets.

Major arterials are in pretty good condition, with snow melting as vehicles drive over it. Neighborhood sidestreets that are not getting as much traffic are more slick.

Teenage Boy Falls to His Death From Parking Garage

Investigators are attempting to determine if this incident was a suicide or an accident, they say foul play was not involved.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Death investigation Police say a 15-year old boy either fell or jumped to his death today from a parking garage. Officers responded today at 3:30 p.m. to the parking garage in the area of SW 6th Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Portland, according to Detective Mary Wheat with the Portland Police Bureau.

"When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy deceased at the scene. Officers interviewed witnesses at the scene who stated that the deceased boy had fallen or jumped from the parking garage."

Pedestrian Struck while Crossing Street

The Washington County Sheriff's Office would like to remind drivers to slow down and be extra cautious while driving in congested areas.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Car vs. pedestrian in Portland, Ore. 12-22-09 Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle striking a person who was crossing the street. A woman was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Bob Ray, Washington County Sheriff's Office.

He says around 4:19 p.m., Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a woman who was crossing SW Scholls Ferry Road close to SW Stephen Lane in the community of Raleigh Hills.

Driver Strikes Three Children in Crosswalk

"Pedestrians are encouraged to wear reflective clothing and carry a light to help vehicles see them easier" -Sgt. Rob Ray, Washington County Sheriff's Office.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Vehicle that struck three children on Tualatin Valley Highway Ore. 12-20-09 Investigators say a car struck three children Sunday at 4:49 p.m. in the crosswalk at SW 178th Avenue on Tualatin Valley Highway.

The children were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff. They were hit by a 1998 Ford Taurus that was driven by 52-year-old Cecilio Venegas of Gresham, who told deputies that he never saw the children until his car hit them. Neither he nor his three passengers were injured.

Police Investigate Injury Shooting Near North Killingsworth Street and North Commercial Avenue

Police did not specify whether or not the shooting was gang-related.

1985 Remains Identified as Those of Missing Teenager Angela Girdner

Detectives are asking anyone with information about either victim during the years 1983, 1984, or 1985 to please call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - 16-year old Angela Marie Girdner In October of 2009, the remains of Angela Marie Girdner were identified by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Her remains had been discovered in April of 1985 in Washington County. Angela had been missing from Portland since May of 1983 when her parents reported her as runaway. Detectives believe that Angela may be a victim of serial killer Gary Ridgway, who is serving 48 consecutive life sentences in Washington.

Portland Police Homicide detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to call Detective Ken Whattam at 503-823-0696.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Kristina Collette Landrum was arrested for Aggravated Murder Portland Police Officers arrested Kristina Collette Landrum today at approximately 7:30 a.m., in the area of NE 160th Avenue and NE Everett Court.

Det. Mary Wheat with Portland Police, says Landrum was wanted for aggravated murder stemming from a December 5th stabbing where 27-year-old Amanda Sheppard was killed.

Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

Large scale racketeering investigation targeted drug trafficking in Clackamas and Washington counties.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Behind bars Attorney General John Kroger today announced that the ringleader of a Clackamas County-based drug trafficking organization was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Vidal Carrillo-Carillo ran a criminal enterprise that sold seven pounds of heroin a week, enough to supply hundreds of addicts in the Portland area.
