Multi County Drug Raids Leads to Several Arrests

Police say they seized meth, guns, cash, and even cockfighting equipment.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Evidence seized in Oregon multi-county drug raid and series of arrests Lincoln County's narcotics team say a drug-related investigation originating with a traffic stop last week on the coast, led officers to Marion County and has resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, cash, firearms and other evidence.

The Nye Beach Writers` Series Presents Ceiridwen Terrill

Ceiridwen Terrill is working on a new book, "Inyo," about wolf-dogs in the United States. She lives on her sailboat, Whistledown, with her dog, Thelma.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Ceiridwen Terrill will perform Saturday April 26th at the Nye Beach Writers' Series. The award-winning Nye Beach Writers Series' will feature nonfiction author, Ceiridwen Terrill on Saturday, April 26th. Her performance begins at 7:00 PM in the Newport Visual Arts Center in Nye Beach.

Ceiridwen Terrill specializes in literary nonfiction, including environmental journalism, science writing and memoir, with a focus on urban ecology, urban/wild conflicts, and the intersections of gender, culture and science.

Unusual DUII Arrest Reported at OSP Newport Office

The state police contracted cleaning employee was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon State Police car door Intoxicated drivers are arrested everyday on our highways, but one could not imagine what an Oregon State Police (OSP) recruit found at the Newport Area Command office Tuesday evening.

Yesterday at approximately 7:00 PM, OSP Recruit Trooper Ian McKay says he was at the Newport office completing a report when a private contractor's cleaning employee drove there with her 12-year old son to clean the OSP office.

Overturned Semi Trailer Blocks Highway 20 Near Newport

Anyone traveling through the area should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

(TOLEDO, Ore.) - Oregon State Police say they are on the scene of a non-injury crash involving an overturned semi truck trailer that had been hauling cardboard on Highway 20.

State troopers report that one lane is blocked on Highway 20 about seventeen miles east of the city of Newport on the Oregon coast.

Rescued Fur Seal Leaves Aquarium for Sea World Friday

The seal’s destination will be warmer waters where she will remain in captivity.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - A rescued Guadalupe fur seal that has been in rehabilitation at the Oregon Coast Aquarium will be moved to her new home at Sea World in San Diego this Friday.

Guadalupe fur seals are protected in the U.S. as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and it is the policy to make every effort to return threatened species to their habitat if the animal demonstrates the ability to survive on its own.

Newport, Oregon Gets Branding Makeover

The fishing port of Newport, Oregon has hired a Portland firm to launch a new image.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Newport, Oregon logo The central Oregon coast resort town of Newport has a new image – at least in the marketing sense.

Portland advertising firm Grady Britton has taken the helm on the city’s revamp in branding and tourism promotion, both around the state and eventually beyond that. Utilizing a realism kind of approach to the town, the firm is helping it to tout itself by simply being itself.

Oregon Coast Community College Announces Fall 2007 Honor Roll

The honor roll includes students from all over Lincoln County, Oregon, as well as other parts of the state and two neighboring states.

Record Number of Illegal Gambling Machines Seized in Lincoln County

Unlawful Possession of a Gambling Device is a class A misdemeanor.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Illegal gambling machines seized in Oregon, 2-2-08 State Police Lottery detectives in Lincoln County say they seized 250 gambling devices, including 244 slot machines, in a shop south of Newport. Detectives say this is the largest seizure of unlawful gambling devices in Oregon.

Police Attempt to Identify Body Found in the Surf Near Yachats

The body was found near the ocean shore by a person taking a walk at Yachats State Park.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Death investigation A person spotted a body this morning in the surf on the south end of Yachats State Park while walking on the beach at 10:00 AM. Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner are attempting to positively identify the white male approximately who they say is 35 to 45 years of age.

Police say at this point, there is no indication of foul play and investigators have ruled out the body being that of a 22-year old man missing since falling off a boat December 7th.

Health Advisory Issued for Water Contact at Nye Beach

Although state officials discourage water contact, they continue to encourage other recreational activities on these beaches.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon beach A public health advisory was issued Wednesday due to higher-than-normal levels of bacteria in ocean waters at Nye Beach in Lincoln County. Increased pathogen and fecal bacteria levels in ocean waters can come from both shore and inland sources such as storm water runoff, sewer overflows, failing septic systems and even animal waste from livestock, pets and wildlife.
