The 2006 Oregon Garden Summer Concert Series is presented by the Wooden Nickel Pub & Eateries.

Singer-Songwriter Billy Preston Dies at 59

(PHOENIX) - Billy Preston Billy Preston, the exuberant keyboardist who landed dream gigs with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and enjoyed his own series of hit singles including "Outta Space" and "Nothing From Nothing," died Tuesday at 59.

Preston's longtime manager, Joyce Moore, said Preston had been in a coma since November in a care facility and was taken to a Scottsdale hospital Saturday after his condition deteriorated.

Teen Musicians Sought For Extreme Teen Band Challenge at the Marion County Fair

(SALEM) - The Marion County Fair is looking for teens who want a chance to show off their musical talents and win up to $1,000.

Teen bands with a majority of band members 21 or younger are encouraged to participate in the Extreme Teen Band Challenge.

On the 14th there will be many related festivities to accompany the band challenge, like BMX bike and skateboard demonstrations, basketball contest, teen makeover and more. The Marion County Fair takes place from July 13th through the 16th.

Western Oregon Dance Students to Perform at The National College Dance Festival

The seven WOU student performers are Latoya Shantia Lovely of Belleglade, Fla.; Michael Coleman of North Bend; Samuel Hobbs of Beaverton; Corale Lamont of Monroe; Jessica Sanford of Salem; Brynn Sylvester of Newberg and Jessica Evans of North Bend.

(MONMOUTH) - Seven Western Oregon University dance students have been selected to perform as part of the National College Dance Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. from May 16 to 18.

Albany River Rhythms Concerts Lineup for 2006

Salem First Wednesday in May Just Around the Corner

Merchants will give away free packets of wildflower seeds, highly appropriate for this growing event that offers so much for downtown visitors.

(SALEM) - Downtown Salem logo The Salem First Wednesday event features local merchants showing off all types of art, music and fun for all ages, and the next chance to be part of it happens May 3rd, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, throughout downtown Salem.

Holly Ivy-Wyllie with First Wednesday says organizers have the event that runs through September up and running. She says they teamed up with the A.C. Gilbert House for May, to focus on garden art and assist them with their `secret garden` ticket sales.

Salem Concert Band Presents Songs of the American West

(SALEM) - The Salem Concert Band The Historic Elsinore Theatre, the Salem Concert Band will present a musical showcase at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 7th entitled `Songs of the American West` under the direction of conductor John Skelton.

Classic `cowboy` tunes, such as Home on the Range and Turkey in the Straw, will be presented by the band, as well as Western-themed pieces written during the 1950s and `60s, such as Santa Fe Saga (1955) by Martin Gould and Laredo Paso Doble (1963) by Clifton Williams. Another special work on the program is Barn Dance and Cowboy Hymn by Philip Sparke, which transports the listener to a scene wherein a rowdy dance and a church service have been seemingly double-booked in the same barn on the same evening, and the experience is at once entertaining and lively, spiritual and serene.

The Salem Concert Band is also pleased to present Haboo, a Native American-inspired piece by Pacific Lutheran University professor and composer Gregory Youtz, which received its world premiere last year at the University of Washington...

Video Shenanigans With a Salem Bagpiper

Ever think about how cool it would be to take a tour of the historic Reed Opera House with a roving bagpipe player?

(SALEM) - bagpiper in Salem Oregon St. Patrick's Day was celebrated by hearty revelers in Downtown Salem, and Salem-News.com's Tim King caught up with a roving bagpipe player who toured the Reed Opera House entertaining everyone along the way.

And yes, by the way, they do play the bagpipes in Ireland!

Here is a video report with no words, just the tunes of the roving bagpipe player serenading the guests in one of Salem's most interesting and oldest buildings.

(Salem) - Law Enforcement for Youths Bryan Flannery and his Band March 9th at the Ike Box in Salem Law Enforcement for Youth, a local 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to low income, at-risk and medically challenged youth, will be holding a charity concert to raise funds for their programs next month.

Willamette Choirs Honored

Willamette auditioned against universities in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming

(Salem) - Willamette University The Willamette University Chamber Choir and Willamette Singers have been selected by the American Choral Directors Association to perform at the organization`s Northwest Regional Convention in Portland in March.

Willamette`s Chamber Choir will perform its convention program at the Winter Choral Concert Saturday, February 25th, at 7:00 PM in Hudson Hall on the Willamette campus.
