Voter Registration Deadline is Tuesday

(SALEM) - If you want to take part in democracy and cast a vote in the May 16th primary, you must register to vote by Tuesday.

You must register if you have changed your name, address or party affiliation.

New registration cards require voters to list either their Oregon driver`s license number, or the last four numbers of your Social Security number.

New Mural Makes a Statement Against Graffiti

(SALEM) - Artists behind the mural Photo Courtesy: Ulana Kushner The Salem community is invited to join students from Chemeketa Community College and McKay High School for the dedication of the mural that they painted to abate graffiti at McKay Park. The dedication will take place on Saturday, April 22nd at 1:00 PM at the park.

Author Victor Villasenor to Speak, Sign Books at Salem Public Library

Villasenor "Burro Genius," the first book of a planned second trilogy, was released in July 2004, is a national bestseller, and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

(SALEM) - Author Victor Villaseor Victor Villaseñor persisted through 265 rejections of his first novel, Macho!, before it was finally sold. He persisted and proved 265 publishers wrong as he inspired comparisons to "the best of Steinbeck" and went on to more than a dozen novels, collections of short stories, children's books, and non-fiction books.

He will talk about his life and his work in a special appearance at 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 3rd in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE.

His talk will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available for sale at the event.

Oregon State Parks Take Part in Earth Day Celebration

Special events are scheduled at Champoeg State Heritage Area, Silver Falls State Park and Tryon Creek State Natural Area in the Willamette Valley and Portland area; at parks in the Columbia River Gorge; at the Valley of the Rogue State Park near Grants Pass in southern Oregon, and at Smith Rock State Park in central Oregon.

(SALEM) - silver falls state park The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has forged partnerships with park and earth-friendly Oregon businesses, organizations and government agencies in several regions of the state to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday.

Salem Audubon Society members will be at Silver Falls State Park, 26 miles east of Salem, to show how birds recycle natural material to build their nests. They will also help visitors to the South Falls Lodge build their own bird nesting boxes while park staff and the Friends of Silver Falls answer questions about healthy environmental practices and lead a nature walk. The event begins at 11:00 AM.

Amnesty For Late Fees, Dog Licenses, Vaccinations Offered During May Event at Humane Society

All dog owners and keepers in Marion County are required by law to purchase a license when a dog reaches six months of age.

(SALEM) - An event next month will help you protect your families best friend!

Marion County Dog Control is offering amnesty for late fees and licensing violations as well as licenses and vaccinations from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, May 6, at the Willamette Humane Society, 4246 Turner Rd SE.

Dr. Susan MacCarthy, DVM, will be providing low-cost vaccinations, health exams, microchipping and flea products for both cats and dogs from her mobile clinic.

Rabies vaccinations for dogs will be $10.50.

Pringle Elementary Turns 150

A mural that depicts the schools service to the community will be unveiled during the Sesquicentennial celebration.

(SALEM) - Pringle Elementary School Pringle Elementary School will be celebrating its Sesquicentennial on Saturday.

The celebration will include art work, a walk through the past 150 years, a carnival, and live music with the Severin Sisters.

The school enlisted local artist Anne Stecker, to work with students over the school year to design a mural that depicts the service of Pringle through the years.

Students worked with parent volunteers to create and glaze the 485 tiles that make up the mural.

OPIC Annual Awards Luncheon Set For April 25th in Salem

(SALEM) - The Oregon Partnership to Immunize Children (OPIC) Awards Luncheon, set for Tuesday, April 25th, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, honors individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to increasing
childhood and adolescent immunization awareness and the rate of immunizations in Oregon.

This is OPIC's eighth annual luncheon. It will be held at the Red Lion Hotel, 3301 Market St. NE, in Salem.

Speakers include Gary D. Overturf, M.D., F.A.A.P., will discuss "The 2006 Recommended Childhood and Immunization Schedule – What's New?" Overturf is a Professor of Pediatrics and the Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine...
