Anti-Slavery Activist Presents Plan to End Modern Slavery in 25 Years

Since slavery feeds directly into the global economy, it touches many products that come into modern homes and investments.

Holocaust Survivor Will Speak in Salem, Oregon

Weiner has been a speaker for more than 340 audiences in Oregon and Washington.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Holocaust Survivor Alter Weiner Alter Weiner’s personal Holocaust story began brutally – with the murder of his father on September 11th, 1939. On the anniversary of this wrenching event, Weiner will share that beginning and the firestorm of events that followed in a special presentation at Salem Public Library.

Weiner will present “From a Name to a Number: A Holocaust Survivor’s Story” from 7:00 -8:30 PM Tuesday, September 11th in Loucks Auditorium at Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE. His presentation is free and open to the public. His recently published autobiography, “From A Name to A Number,” will be available for purchase at the event.

Police to Carry Special Olympics Flame of Hope through Salem

Salem Police will hand the torch to runners from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, who in turn will pass it to state police.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Final leg of 2006 Torch Run for the Special Olympics Fourteen members of the Salem Police Department will participate in the Oregon Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run that is passing through Salem, Wednesday, June 27th.

The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Flame of Hope will pass through Salem in the hands of local law enforcement officers as it makes its way to Hillsboro for the June 29th opening of the Special Olympics Summer Games.

Salem Public Works Day is Thursday at Riverfront Park

A variety of equipment that city crews use to operate and maintain the city's water, sewer, storm, and transportation systems will be on display.

Come for lunch and see Claudia, the 29-foot Chinook; watch a demonstration of how large water pipes are repaired; root for your favorite team in a backhoe bowling contest.

The Beavers will face Cal State Fullerton in their opening game of the College World Series on Saturday at 4:00 PM PDT.

Security Zone in Place for Rose Festival Fleet Week

Violations of a controlled access area may result in a penalty action under the provision of 33 USC 1231 (maximum fine of $37,500).

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - rose festival ships The Coast Guard will enforce and maintain a controlled access area on the Willamette River while Navy and Coast Guard vessels are tied up at the seawall between the Steel and Morrison Bridges throughout the fleet's visit June 6th-11th.

All boaters, kayakers, personal watercraft operators and canoeists are asked to avoid the security zone altogether.

OMSI Hosts Memorial Day Ceremony Honoring Veterans

Portland Fireboats to Perform Water Spray Salute.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Submarine The USS Blueback OMSI will be holding its annual Memorial Day ceremony to commemorate those who served on the USS Blueback and other local veterans on Monday, May 28th at 1:00 PM in the courtyard behind OMSI. The event is open and free to the public.

The Memorial Day ceremony will include bagpipers and a color guard, tolling of the bells for lost boats, placing of the wreath, and retirement of the colors. The grand finale will be a water spray salute by a Portland fireboat. Members of the U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. and the U.S. Submarine Veterans of W.W. II will attend. Navy in-shore patrol boat unit 13 will also be on display.

Memorial Day F-15 Oregon Flyovers Announced

The Oregon Air National Guard has been an integral part of the nation's air defense since 1941.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - oregon air guard The Oregon Air National Guard will salute America's fallen heroes and veterans with flyovers for various ceremonies at locations throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington on Memorial Day.

Two F-15 Eagle jet fighters from the 142nd Fighter Wing will depart the Portland Air Base.

All passes will be approximately 1,000 feet above ground level and 350 knots airspeed.
