Oregon Police Agencies Participate in Special Olympics Torch Run (VIDEO)

The torch runners passed through Salem Wednesday.

(SALEM, Ore.) - runners Salem Police officers joined other law enforcement agencies from the local area for the "Flame of Hope" annual Law Enforcement Torch Run June 3rd. Officers joined state troopers and country deputies in running the torch over the twelve-mile course that wound through the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Salem Police officers received the torch from members of the Marion County Sheriff's Office at the Sunnyside/Turner Exit on Interstate 5 and ran the torch up Commercial Street, stopping at the Salem Civic Center for a brief ceremony.

Inmate Work Crews Support Washington County Woodcutters

The Washington County Jail used a work crew of 6-8 inmates, depending on the day, to buck up the trees and then split and stack the wood.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Washington County Jail inmate workers have been working with the Washington County Woodcutters, Incorporated, an organization that splits and delivers firewood to elderly Washington County residents to heat their homes in winter.

Night of Fire 2008 Lights It Up!

The event is set for tonight in the Salem Evangelical Church parking lot on N. Liberty Street.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon hot rod and custom car enthusiasts get together each summer for a very special celebration called "Night of Fire." In fact, the gathering is earning a reputation for being one of the state's top events for cars, and it also is an event with a heart.

The idea is to bring hundreds of cars and thousands of enthusiasts together for an event in the Salem area that is family friendly and downright memorable. Highlights at this get together include the lighting of the jet car, drag racers, low rider hops, and plenty of great food from vendors like Adams Rib Smokehouse.

Food for Fines Week Coming to Salem Public Library

Food items will be accepted at the Central Library, West Salem Branch, and on the Bookmobile.

(SALEM) - Salem Public Library For one week only, Salem Public Library will forgive fines for patrons who bring in donations of non-perishable food items between Sunday, March 25th and Saturday, March 31st.

This highly successful program pays off for library patrons and for families served by Marion-Polk Food Share.

The 2006 Food for Fines program generated 6,100 pounds in donations. Fines totaling $3,993 were cleared on 576 library cards.
