Endorse the People`s Charter to Create a Nonviolent World

Once the Charter is launched on November 11th the organizers will launch a signature site where people can sign on in a commitment to act on the principles of the Charter.

(EUREKA, Calif.) - Ghandi Some fellow students of nonviolence from Australia are preparing to launch an effort they call the People's Charter to Create a Nonviolent World, and I am sending this out to all of you in the hope that you will endorse this worthy effort.

It is another link in the chain of nonviolence that can, when it gathers up enough people in its gentle arms, one day break the cycle of violence that threatens to destroy the very world in which we live.

Greg Palast writes in the Guardian of how Goldman took a wee bit of revenge on Occupy Wall Street via the itty bitty credit union ($30 million in assets) that OWS chose for its bank account, Peoples Bank. Peoples has “a unique Federal charter”.

House Passes Mining Company Land Swap Bill Favoring Foreign-Based Rio Tinto

The measure passed by a vote of 235-186, with only seven Democrats joining 228 Republicans in voting for passage and only 8 Republicans joining 178 Democrats in voting against the measure.

(BERKELEY, Calif. ) - U.S. House of Representatives The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill (HR 1904) that would swap federal land in Arizona with Resolution Copper Mining, a company owned jointly by Rio Tinto (55%) and BHP Billiton (45%). Resoluton Copper is hoping to gain greater access to its mining claim, which is considered the largest undeveloped copper deposit in North America and the third largest in the world.

The measure is supported by building, mining, pro-business, and conservative ideological groups.

Remains of Woman Missing From Rainbow Gathering Identified

“We are thankful that we can help Marie’s family and friends work towards some closure on her disappearance.” said Undersheriff Dave Cox.“

(STEVENSON, Wash.) - Marie Hanson Skeletal remains and jewelry located by searchers in the mountains of south Washington last week, have now been positively identified through dental records, as belonging to Marie Hanson, of South Lake Tahoe, California.

Marie Hanson, was last seen during the Rainbow Gathering in early July of this year, a peace gathering in the Skookum Meadows area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Murder Suspects Held in California Jail Over Fatal Devonshire Apartment Shooting

Both subjects are being detained at the Siskiyou County Jail on murder charges.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 29-year old Nicholas Chavez, and 18-year old Jhosuamil Colon Lebron Detectives with the Marion County Sheriff's Office are continuing their investigation of the Sunday morning shooting that left one person dead. The victim has been identified as 23-year old David A. Polanco, of Salem. Mr. Polanco was found dead at the scene, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
