Oct-23-2011 20:04TweetFollow @OregonNews LA Vets Demand Housing at Giant VA CampusPoetry by Luke Easter Salem-News.comIt's one of the biggest insults to American Veterans in history.
(CLEVELAND) - Veterans, after the Civil War, were awarded land for parks, housing and medical facilities by private groups across America. One such plot of land, now worth billions of dollars, is the Los Angeles Veterans Park. This is one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the United States. Across the country, political insiders tied to developers and businesses looking to profit from misuse of veteran facilities, are being given hundreds of millions of dollars of land, not owned by the federal government, but held in trust for veterans, all without legal precedent, due process or any clear authority. In Los Angeles, protesting veterans have been subjected to illegal surveillance, wire tapping, trespassing citations, detention without arrest and assault by uniformed Army Reserve personnel. Protesting veterans are cited for trespassing, even on days when thousands of Iranian protestors hang anti-American signs on nearby monuments with total impunity. What does this tell you? Protesting groups, led by the Military Order of Purple heart and including members of the American Legion, VFW, AMVETs, and others, several wheelchair bound World War 2 veterans, have been protesting for 2 years. -
LA Vets Demand Housing at Giant VA Campus
Gigantic Los Angeles property donated for war vets in 1888, Ron Kovich, whose story was, “Born On The Forth Of July,” Estimated 8,000 vets have been barred from living at the site, “It’s a shame” says Caroline Barrie, a descendant of the heiress, The abandoned buildings are off limits to those it intended to serve, Unemployment is high above the national average for those who are, An illustrious private institution where not one day in combat spent, CNN initial request referred to the Justice Department by the VA, “We don’t believe the VA has any authority or responsibility to provide,” Saying, “I intend to keep working to make sure Congress doesn’t stop,” Simply unpatriotic that vets have to get outside help to fight their battle, These elected politicians and their appointed cronies have a lot of nerve, By Luke Easter Aug-19-2009: A Band Against Brothers? - By Gordon Duff and Robert Rosebrock Special to Salem-News.com _____________________________________

Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job. The homeless veterans need REAL HOUSING, REAL TRAINING, and REAL JOBS; not prison-like and institutional 12-step religious cult insane asylums with 24/7 baby-sitting by VA staff, armed guards, and snitches!
