Organizing for the Port Shutdown

Challenging the assertion that the Occupy movement is trying to impose a shutdown of West Coast docks without support from port workers.

(OAKLAND) - The Port of Oakland (Daniel Parks) THE OCCUPY movement is trying to strong-arm longshore workers and truck drivers into shutting down West Coast ports December 12--or so say critics of the action.

They're wrong. Those organizing for action on the docks are neither the outside agitators described by employers nor the ultra-left adventurists snubbed by union leaders and their apologists.

House Passes Bill Striking Preemptively at EPA`s Regulation of Farm Dust

The bill was opposed by environmental protection and health policy groups.

(BERKELEY, Calif.) - Farm dust The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill (HR 1633) that would establish a temporary prohibition against revising any national ambient air quality standard applicable to coarse particulate matter in order to limit federal regulation of "nuisance dust" in areas in which such dust is regulated under state, tribal, or local law.

Proponents of the bill were concerned about the possibility that the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency would regulate so-called "farm dust," particulates kicked up in the air during normal farming practices.

Abolish the Death Penalty, Replace With Life Without Parole

Imposing the death penalty is much more expensive than imposing a sentence of life without parole, because the Constitution requires a long and complex judicial process for death penalty cases.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Historical poster by Peg Averill. The death penalty should be abolished in the United States because life without parole is more humane, less discriminatory, and a less costly alternative – and it avoids the risk of executing an innocent person.

Thirty-four states impose the death penalty, including California, Oregon, and Washington, and there are 41 Federal capital crimes for which the death penalty can be applied.

He wrote: "I was grinning from ear to ear when I read the article about finally solving the riddle of the Sun being hotter on the outside! Ha! You told me about that years ago."

My Occupy LA Arrest

Family Guy writer among those arrested for what used to be legal in the U.S.A., non-violent political protest.

(LOS ANGELES) - A protester is arrested by Los Angeles Police Department officers after he attempted to join a group of Occupy LA demonstrators. My name is Patrick Meighan, and I’m a husband, a father, a writer on the Fox animated sitcom “Family Guy”, and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica.

I was arrested at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning with 291 other people at Occupy LA. I was sitting in City Hall Park with a pillow, a blanket, and a copy of Thich Nhat Hanh’s “Being Peace” when 1,400 heavily-armed LAPD officers in paramilitary SWAT gear streamed in.

Marines Arrested at Occupy LA - One Says Cops Threatened His Family`s Lives

"Our government is capable of making people disappear"

(LOS ANGELES) - Occupy Los Angeles Los Angeles Police took a Marine Veteran away without stating what the charges were at Occupy LA in late November. Jason Hurley's arrest was scarcely publicized, except for the coverage on YouTube and on the Occupy LA Website.

We've reported a number of Marine Veterans being assaulted by police during the various Occupy movement gatherings in California. It looks like the cops are striving for the point of of return, Marines aren't known for standing by for this type of behavior.

(CRYSTAL MOUNTAINS, Wash.) - Eric and Evan at Crystal Mountain I have been a surfer for over 42 years and my son Evan who is now 11, never caught on to the one love of my life. Instead, he chose to be a skater dude and he is a pretty good one at that.

However, we moved to Washington from California a little over a year ago and his skating time has been declining due to poor weather and logistics of indoor parks.

Police Move Against Occupy Los Angeles

Police in the city of LA say they will sweep Occupy protest.

(LOS ANGELES) - Occupy LA Organizers with Occupy Los Angeles are on the defensive tonight, there are paid anti-movement demonstrators reportedly taking part efforts to disrupt the movement.

A representative using the name 'Freedom' appeared on Channel 7 News in Los Angeles in their 11:00 p.m. broadcast, marking one more event in which the movement was allowed to speak for itself rather than being interpreted by news anchors, writers and reporters.
