Dec-07-2011 15:19TweetFollow @OregonNews West Coast Port Blockades - PortlandSalem-News.comBlockade the Wealth of the 1% - The blockade Port of Portland begins 12 Dec at 5:00 a.m.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Blockade the Ports will happen on 12 Dec 12, activists will stage mass mobilizations to march on the ports, create community pickets, and effectively shutdown the hubs of commerce during this peak holiday profitmaking season. Why the portsActivists say the ports represent commerce and capital: "This is how the 1% create their immense wealth. It is critical to stop business as usual for the 1%, and to disrupt their ability to make money at the expense of working people. The holiday season has been exploited by the 1% to make money off working people. This is a peak business time for the ports and the wealthiest corporations." A press release for Blockade the Ports, states that holidays are about family & community, not wealth and exploitation. "The truck driver union in Los Angeles has called for solidarity as they struggle with the LA ports. We stand in solidarity with them, and all workers fighting for democratic workplaces." The group says they want to be clear, that the unions are not striking, but still support the vast majority of Americans that Blockade the Ports represents: "No. In this instance the unions are not able to publicly support this blockade for fear of legal action from the 1%. However, rank and file union members, workers, and the unemployed are all part of the 99% and have consistently shown support for the Occupy Movement. Union members have the right to free speech & assembly and are leading the way for this blockade." They say there are ways for people to become involved, attend planning meetings where you can join a working group; they are at SEIU Local 49: 3536 SE 26th Ave 7:00 p.m. Thursday 8 Dec 8, and Sunday 11 Dec. Orientation at 6:30 p.m. Contact Blockade the Ports at info@shutdowntheport.comm or 503 567-8213. Shirley, you jest? Any blockade, no matter the length, only hurts the workers. This is a really stupid idea that is orientated towards Marxism. Maybe it is a good idea afterall, then more people see the futility of this movement. You notice how the Tea Party did it? They got their permits, assembled all over the country, engaged elected officials of all parties, they got called all kinds of names, including racists (never any audio/video proof), they cleaned up after themselves, no one of this group was arrested, then they organized around candidates, and changed the entire system to meet their goals. Still, they are exercising their 1st Amendment, and will soon change even more power slots in less than a year. The OWS could pursue the same strategy except that they are literally trying to collapse the system. Those who work want to see change, those who don't work want to destroy, or at least that's what the evidence acknowledges. The majority have jobs and healthcare, so they are not going to harm their own self-interest, so we need jobs, and we need people trained for those jobs. For the last 3 years we have been hustled, just look at the evidence.
Editor: The tea party is a pack of GOP whiners who root for the one percent, you are extremely unqualified to evaluate what is taking place, you know nothing about it and absolutely every possible problem is because of that last president who is a war criminal, ever heard of that one? The one that lied about Iraq? The one who lied about everything? Obama is a joke, but he isn't a Muslim, the Occupy movement is about real Americans, it has nothing to do with the tea party or any of your preferred methods of life.
