Update on Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Near Albany

An autopsy was completed Monday morning by Dr. Larry Lewman of the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.

OSP, Linn County Authorities Investigating Officer Involved Shooting Friday on Interstate Five

The suspect who was shot remains in critical condition Friday night at a Corvallis Hospital.

(ALBANY) - Oregon State Police Criminal Investigations Division detectives, in conjunction with Linn County DA Office and Linn County Sheriffs Office, are continuing the investigation into Friday afternoon's officer-involved shooting on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 236.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at 12:48 PM, OSP Trooper Russell Decker and Senior Trooper Huff Meyer initiated a high risk traffic stop on a black small car on the right shoulder.

Shooting on I-5 Closes Freeway

I-5 Northbound South of Albany Traffic Delayed For Officer Involved Shooting Investigation

(ALBANY) - freeway shooting Oregon State Police are involved in an officer involved shooting on Northbound Interstate 5 near mile post 232.

According to OSP, at about 12:48 PM, troopers were involved in a high risk traffic stop of a car on Interstate 5 near milepost 235, which ended north of Albany at Millersburg.

The trooper involved in the shooting was not injured, and one person is reported down.

Fraud Suspects Sought by Police

Police in Albany say two of the three credit cards used by the suspects were stolen in car prowls at local golf courses, they are hoping the release of the security camera photos lead investigators to their location and arrest.

(ALBANY) - Security cameras images of the fraud suspects The Albany Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying two suspects in a recent string of credit card fraud and identity thefts.

They say that on July 28th, a male and female team used stolen credit cards at five Albany area stores and amassed over $4,000 in fraudulent charges.

On August 12th, the same team attempted to use a stolen credit card at one of the Albany area stores that they victimized on July 28th; however, they fled the store when recognized.

Albany Police Offering Fall Citizens’ Academy

The academy is designed to promote awareness and understanding of the police department’s role in the community and the criminal justice system, and to educate citizens about its daily function and operation.

(ALBANY) - Albany Police logo The Albany Police Department is accepting applications for its fall Citizens’ Academy.

The academy will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, Tuesday evenings from Sept. 5th to Nov. 21st at Central Willamette Community Credit Union.

Two Saturday classes are also planned.

The academy is free to Albany residents of all backgrounds and occupations who are 18 or older and pass a criminal background check.

Oregon Guard`s Amber Mann Competes in 2nd Annual Military Idol Competition

Rumor has it that Amber can belt out one mean version of the National Anthem.

(ALBANY) - Amber Mann Sergeant Amber Mann, a soldier with the Oregon Army National Guard recently completed the third round of competition for the Military Idol Competition for the Northwest Region.

Based upon the American Idol Concept, this is the first year National Guard and Reserve soldiers can compete against their active duty counterparts.

Woman Was Lucky to Survive Flinn Building Fire in Albany

A person sleeping in the bulding was woken by the smell of smoke.

(ALBANY) - Fire scene A fire Wednesday morning at approximately 4:30 AM seriously damaged one of Albany’s historic buildings. Fire Spokesperson Wanda Omdahl says Albany Fire crews responded to a smoke investigation at 222 SW First Street.

The call was quickly changed to a second alarm fire. Before it was over, additional assistance came from Corvallis, Tangent, and Adair Fire Departments.

Historic Albany Building Damaged by Fire

No injuries were reported in this multi-alarm fire.

(ALBANY) - Albany firefighters have put out a 2-alarm blaze in the historic Flinn Building in downtown Albany Wednesday morning.

Albany Fire Department spokeswoman Wanda Omdahl says the first call came in at about 4:30 AM.

The 1890s building was undergoing renovation.

Omdahl said the building houses nine businesses and a church downstairs, and four apartments upstairs were evacuated.

Albany Police Arrest Predatory Sex Suspect in Child Abduction Case

Police say a search led them to the suspect and the little girl, in a secluded area along the Willamette River.

(ALBANY) - Suspect arrested by Albany Police, 41-year old Hugh Lewis Hile A report of a missing 7-year old girl led Albany Police to a sex abuse case and the arrest of a man suspected of nabbing the child from her front yard.

On Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 9:20 PM, the Albany Police Department responded to the 600 block of SE 6th Avenue on the report of a missing 7-year old girl.

The parents told police that they had last seen their daughter in the front yard about 40 minutes prior to calling police.

(ALBANY) - drowning investigation Investigators say they still don’t know how a 16-month old child left in the care of a relative drowned Friday in a backyard pool in Albany.

Albany police and an ambulance responded to the home located at 3666 Tudor Way S.E. at 11:30 AM Monday on a report of a possible child drowning.

When crews arrived on scene, they say they located little Joelle Carr, who was found unconscious and unresponsive in 2 feet of water. It is reported that the youngster was being cared for by her grandmother while her parents were at work.
