Albany Police Arrest Predatory Sex Suspect in Child Abduction Case

Police say a search led them to the suspect and the little girl, in a secluded area along the Willamette River.

(ALBANY) - A report of a missing 7-year old girl led Albany Police to a sex abuse case and the arrest of a man suspected of nabbing the child from her front yard.

On Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 9:20 PM, the Albany Police Department responded to the 600 block of SE 6th Avenue on the report of a missing 7-year old girl.

The parents told police that they had last seen their daughter in the front yard about 40 minutes prior to calling police. A witness further reported that a male subject had taken the 7-year old girl from the front yard and rode off with her on a white motorized scooter.

A search effort was begun along the banks of the Willamette River for the 7-year old girl and the suspect. At 11:40 PM, officers located the suspect and the 7-year old girl in a secluded area along the Willamette River near Water Avenue and Sherman Street.

The suspect fled the area on foot and was located 35 minutes later hiding in a back yard in the 800 block of SE 1st Avenue. The suspect was located by an Albany Police K-9.

The suspect, a registered predatory sex offender, is identified as 41-year old Hugh Lewis Hile. Hugh Lewis Hile was loosely known by the victim's family. Hugh Lewis Hile was lodged in the Linn County Jail on the following charges:

The 7-year old girl received care at the ABC House (All Because of Children – Linn County Child Victim Assessment Center) before she was reunited with her parents.

I know the sex offender's family and they are sickened about this too. I've corresponded with Hugh Lewis Hile, and he is so remorseful. He was on drugs and hopes the best for the victim. Sad situation all around. I will never lose sight of his crime or the victim's recovery for life.

All the people who have wrote to this blog are right. Why waste the tax payers dollars. I looked for him for years so I could keep track of him. The sex offender registery gave no address in either Oregon or Alabama. I wanted to know where he was because he raped me. If the system worked he would not have been out on the streets so he could do this to someone's baby girl.

this is my best friend's little sister and there family means alot 2 me it's so hard to know someone would do something like this and to my friends sister at that when i see my friend talk or look at her sister it's so hard 2 see and really hard for her to guys like this should not live to see another day i wish i could talk to him face to face and tell him the damage he caused this family and to the girls family he did this to i wish them the best of luck and keep ya head up its ok he is finally put away thank god we got one more of those perverts off the street!!!! so many people are always saying "oh dont worry this wont happen to me'' and thats what she thought and look what she went through so for all u people out there be safe and watch ur kids cause this can happen to anyone.

this girl is my little sister. And i think this man should have his #%&@# cut-off and sent to prison where i hope he gets &*#%* every minute of his damn life!....she is the most beautiful little girl you will ever meet and means the world to me. If you saw the gashes and bruises on her body you would feel the same way i do.

I understand they are mentally sick, but these people are not rehabilatatable. Castration and prison for life...OR firing squad. I would hate to be his mother and want to see him helped, but if one of my children grew up and did this crime, putting them out of their misery may be the only hope.

This just goes to prove that the justice system sucks! This monster was already a sex offender and was let out of jail he was registerd but what good did that do? He was hanging around little kids everyday ... and now look... How much does a person have to do for them to be put behind bars for good? mabye he wll kill the next one..And where will the justice be....I think that we should get rid of the judges and have citizens rule on the punishment!! Mabye we would get more accomplished!!!!
